If you are near Lenwade, Norwich, Norfolk NR9, give me a shout. I work for Sita and our depot up there has one of the metal gun things which tell you what metal it is.

Just after they got it, they found a bit of metal in stock which was worth over 20k. Not bad.

Shep, did the Jeweller even see the metal and test it, or did he just say nah it's just aluminium? You may have just told a sleaze your grandpops keeps valuable things in his garage.

Why can't some members have a warning underneath their names?, or a reputation system (outside of MM) that deals with quality of posts etc?. Surely we could do better than this shep plank.

yep ban him!

On the "it's aluminium" idea.

I've got an aluminium rod that's part of a mounting bracket on my desk, when you pick it up you immediately think "wtf that weighs nothing for a metal bar"

pick up a similar sized steal allen key and compare and it's immediately obvious.

You'd instantly tell if it was aluminium or something more dense especially something as dense as platinum.

You've made the whole thing up, haven't you either that or you are willing to write off £25k for the sake of doing a tiny bit of research and believing what "a bloke down the pub" said.

Anyone who believes "a bloke down the pub" rather than an expert, when you are talking decent sums of money, is a fool.

BAN!

too right he has, if he thought it was platinum there would have been a pic at least

Clever bloke in the pub, he's identified it without even seeing it! Must be some sort of ninja.

this is what i don't understand - platinum is almost 8 times more dense than aluminium - simply picking it up should be enough to tell the difference.

What you don't understand though, is that shep_cobain is almost 8 times more dense than your average GD monkey.
