Car Black Boxes

I need one of these cameras in my truck, I could start a tv show with some of the more "interesting" stuff I see out & about.

Oh wait.... :o :D

I now have 2 cameras on my bike (helmet front and on bike rear) just because a lady left/rear ended me last august and said I cut across in front of her but I was in front of her for 200 yards after I safely over took her on a two lane one way street before she hit me when I was turning left, luckily my workmate witness was considered more independent than her shopping friends witnesses in the car, now I just record every journey so I can easily prove my positioning.

I do get some wonderful footage only front as I have only just got the rear camera (£15 by the way)

This one gets me !!

Very silly. I know that roadway system and I almost made the same mistake once - it was dark and I was young and stupid :o

Quite like the look of this roadhawk camera, it's not a huge expense either.

edit - by 'mistake' I mean almost taking taking that road to join the dual carriageway, not doing what she did by taking it then ploughing into a lorry, trying to aviod the other one.

Here's a crazy woman I caught earlier driving with the roof and windows down on the dual carriageway in the pouring rain.

It clearly isnt raining that hard as you can hear your wipers squeeling as they hit spots of windscreen which don't have standing water on. When driving a convertible at speed it needs to be raining a certain amount before you actually get wet.

It was raining a lot harder literally 60 seconds before I passed her which is why my wipers were at that speed. The carriageway ended a mile later where there were a couple of roundabouts and she continued to follow for a while on a 40mph road. It was just a bit odd to see considering it's been raining for the entire day. I'm guessing her roof was broken.

Sorry funky but that's not exactly defensive riding really, your gonna get knocked off riding like that, technically your in the right but you seem to launch into the situation looking for trouble.

Some of those situations he has fair cop to be annoye about, but he doesn't seem to look ahead and see what might happen.

Yes the people are in the wrong but you would be a lot further away from some of these incidents if you just chilled and saw them coming. You can't do this in every case but getting annoyed like this will inevitably lead to you getting wiped out one day.

people in the video are in the wrong, but marginally so.

Not one of those made me feel sorry for the rider if anything he was increasing the danger by purposefully chosing to maintain his line despite the obvious obstruction just to make a point. I do the same when I'm driving to hopefully alert the driver of my presence which he previously ignored and to also feed my little angry road rage fuelled driving brain.

my advice is to buy the roadhawk, its awesome, but remember if the filth tug you make sure you remove the memory card from the camera, if it's anything like mine there would be far too much incriminating evidence on it ;)

Can they actually force to see the footage? It's the idea of the camera being used me that puts me off them :(.

no idea, I just pop the memory card out, you can set it so it only every records emergency events (you manually press the button) or specific shock related events (you set the thresholds) so if that's all you want to record it will fit your requirements. I shoved a 32gb card in mine and record everything in HD on continuous loop, if someone watched it back it would be boody funny, most of the time I'm singingalong to def leppard :p

If I got angry about it you would audibly hear me swear I am completely calm in those situations.

I ride 2-3 seconds behind vehicles in the dry, in my daily commute I must count at least 20 times on average judging the rear of a car passing a key point to the point where I am about to pass at maybe 6 feet from it.

I rarely tip over the speed limit, all what you see is at or below the speed limit.

You can not see everything going on in the videos, in some cases you just have ot trust me that there are other obstacle around that mean I am well prepared to brake and avoid, I always try to have an escape route.

If you listen the noise of the engine you can hear I drop off the throttle when coming close and coast at this point I am also ready with the brake.

Because of the cameras limitations it may appear that I am closer to some vehicles than I actually am.

If I didn't look ahead to see what might happen I would have been long dead, i have been riding for 10 years and nearly every day is a learning experience.

It may appear that I am riding with a 'I have right of way' attitude and I do but its also with a 'I am invisible to every other road user' and 'Beware of idiots' attitude.

My road positioning sometimes can be less defensive that it should be but the video is taken to show I am not being unreasonable in my positioning so I am within the law.

I am going to take a BikeSafe course this year because I wish to learn more.

If anyone has specific things to point out where I could have positioned myself better I welcome it and will listen and try to apply that knowledge when I ride.

and yes I do currently live in the Harlow area, but only out of convenience.

I do like the road hawk... I wish my camera had a wide angle lens.

I very much doubt they can force you to give ofver the footage, surely it would be like them demanding to see a camera memory card for them to look over the footage from your day out and about.

I do lots of driving and have never had a fault claim. Why are you different?

I often wonder this as well. Some people seem prone to 'non fault' accidents if that makes sense.

I remember the IAM once saying that something stupid like 80% of non-fault accidents are avoidable by the non-blame party.
