I'm nearing the point where I'm elligible for an upgrade on my existing o2 contract and wondered what sort of deals they are likely to give me for the Samsung Galaxy S2?? (not due until September but apparently I'm a "gold-tier" customer which means I can upgrade 3 months early!)

I'm currently paying circa £30 p/m for 600 mins, 1000 texts plus the 500mb "smart phone" bolt-on but ideally I'd like to be paying no more that £25 p/m without having to cough up some dough for the phone itself! (although half as many minutes and texts wouldnt be a huge issue!)

Does this sound do-able???

Thanks........

£30 per month and a free phone should be doable, £25 will depend on who you get through to and how good of a customer you are, but its a long shot considering O2 tend to be fairly expensive and its a very popular handset.

I didn't really have room to negotiate as it was my first contract, but I'm on 300min/UL texts/500MB for £25 and the phone cost me £40. You shouldn't have much trouble upgrading for free.

not bad, did you get this online/phone or in the o2 shop ?

Ring retentions, I got there standard deal when i called to upgrade, the deal was £42 600min unlimited text and 500mb internet.

That would be generic you, as of course I was not in retentions.

Sorry, I was thinking that you were the OP, who was looking for a contract renewal, whereas in your case it was (as you said), your first contract.

It is surprising what sort of deals can be negotiated though, both on and off line, if you just happen to speak with the right person at the right time.

In the case of Vodafone for example, their 'web relations team' seem to be able to offer all sorts of 'deals' which certainly aren't published anywhere!

Thanks for all the replies guys - I'll see what they offer me at the time and compare it to the available deals at the time!

£42 p/m is way too much from what I've seen elsewhere plus I doubt I'll get through to retentions as its 3 months before I can threaten to walk away!

But you don't have to upgrade yet, and they'll want you to
