New Blackberries

remember to buy from the companies that joined the android alliance too, promised to bring timely updates.

fragmentation will get better, but because android os is open sauce you will always have budget handsets that get stuck with updates.

you could argue though is it best that way, giving the latest os update to an iphone 3g makes it run like a dog

Ignore the whole 2 models, the 9900 and 9930, the US has 2 types of mobile network and one of those is for each network.

We'll only be getting one :)

I've been a BB user for the last god knows how many years, and the other week I picked up my first non BB with a Desire S.

Didn't really get on with it, the whole app thing is lost on me as I really only want something for emails, texts and calls.

I didn't like not having a keyboard, but this is fixed by buying a handset that has one! Also it crashed a fair few times when I had it whereas the BB has been rock steady.

The email handling for me is better on the BB, and the security aspects of it are a necessity for work so haven't had any other option to use for work available.

So took it back and am waiting for the new 9900, which is rumoured for late summer/september time.

Until then I'll see if work will let me buy my old Bold 9000 off them when I leave (which prompted the new phone situation) as for what I need it for it's perfect.

Hmm that's interesting, to be honest I don't think I've really thought about it too much. I just took it for granted they were quite good, as I hear quite abit about them being good, maybe its BB fanboys though. Then again I don't want to break the bank on a new phone either want to try and keep the price of my contract down. I may have to think again depending on what other people say. Hard thing is where I live there no phone shops to play with new phones :(

Personally, I have a BB for work by choice. I use it because it's far more reliable than Symbian / Windows based phones.

For me, BB's about long battery life, emails and BB messenger. But, well, that's about it.

I went from a BB Curve 8900 to a Desire HD and there is absolutely no chance that I would go back, I sometimes have to fix my mums 8900 and it just feels so limited and old fashioned.

The single advantage is battery life, but I manage a full day easily and night-time charging isn't a problem for me so I manage just fine with that.

I find email easier and quicker on the DHD, I just can't think of any reason that would make me choose a BB at all and this is on a slight 'old tech' android, when you look at the new HTC and Samsung Android phones they're another step ahead again.

If you want to try something with a k/b and want to try something else than a iPhone or and Android phone then the HP Pre3 should be out soon - WebOS is probably the best mobile OS out their atm and the app store is getting better by the day.

Blackberrys are not without their issues though. regular freezing on the Torch is common. On the BES I manage I've had to replace several handsets as well due to faults (screen stopped working, freezing, other issues).

For such a business orientated phone they're not very reliable in a business environment. The issues I have had to deal with span from the Storm to the Torch range.

By contrast the iPhone and Android devices have been far more reliable and versatile, hardware keyboard or not.

The only saving factor for Blackberry IMO is the security you get with them (it's the only reason the company management signed these devices off in the first place) and that's the only thing I can think of as everything else is generations behind the competition.

I want a hardware keyboard and I am not happy getting an 18mth contract with old tech... so a Blackberry is about my only option at the moment. My phone is primarily used as a phone with some casual internet usage and sometimes maps to see where I am in a city and how to get there.

The Droid 3 is what I want but it's ages away from a UK release :(

I'll wait for a Windows 8 hybrid docking phone/pad- after that everything else will just be a phone (if it isn't already).

Would you lose too much if you bought a second hand BB off t'internet, then sold it when the Droid3 is out? Or is the release too far away for the BB to be worth anything?

Thanks for clearing the difference between the two phones, makes sense now. Not so sure I can hold on until September though if that's when it's rumoured to come out! Well its a very hard decision to make now between so many phones and different costs for each different phone.

I'm guessing I'm going to end up going down android again with a much better quality phone than the Wildfire. what's the thoughts on the sgs1? Or the Sony arc?

I may as well just keep my Droid 1 / Milestone in that case.. I want a new phone! haha.

I recently bought a BB curve 3G , within a fortnight i gave it to my wife and bought a desire Z (pull out keyboard) the difference was amazing, the DZ is far behind the newest phones on the market now but miles ahead of the BB's

Only thing the DZ has over my milestone is ram, not happy to go onto a new contract with that. (my Milestone runs at 1.2ghz)

I had a BlackBerry Bold 9700. Sold that and got a Galaxy S, then sold that and got a Desire HD. Now I'm back with a BlackBerry Torch a I like my battery to last until I get home from work in the evenings after moderate use, and I'll be changing to the 9900 when it comes out :)
