Drug Trials for pharma companies

I have, though never for as much as £1800 - most I ever got for a trial was £300, and that was one night in a centre & 3 follow-up appointments over 3 months. Well worth doing in my own experience, but it's all subjective.

Granted, there's a real risk to it, but I don't see it as putting my life on the line for a bit of extra cash, but more that I'm gambling my health against scientific development and the cash is a nice bonus. My own curious mix of narcissism, mysanthropy and altruism resolves any such conflicts into whether the sacrifice of any part of my imspirational existence can benefit the masses of filth I'm forced to wallow in, even if the primary motive is greed and self-fulfillment. I'm just that awesome.

My grandfather is in a cancer trial right now. He is 84 though, been battling cancer on and off for nearly 20 years and has acquired a devil may care attitude. If he dies he dies, if the drug works he helped cure cancer. Win Win in his eyes.

I haven't, but an ex of mine did whilst we were knocking about, it was closer to 2.5k iirc, this was nearly 6 years ago. Anyway, I was apprehensive, but ultimately I noticed no negative effects, and she's still as fit as a fiddle today. Of course it's all relative to the trial in question, but if the conditions were right I might be tempted.

I guess it depends on your situation.

I knew someone who did this anyway but he had other health problems that were serious enough to reduce his lifespan so he didn't care.

I had a friend that used to do it a few years back and jump under the train to London every now and again and stay over for a week/fortnight.

Nothing weird ever happened to him but tbf he was always a bit of a strange one afterwards.

Is there not a company in the UK? I could do with a few extra £££. I've had countless ops, drugs (NHS stuff), been bitten by a few snakes and in good health.

Im happy tp try it as it may help others or even my self one day!

I can die just crossing the road

my brother does it i think you are limited to 4 trials a year - or rather a gap of x months between each trial..

he has been doing it for about 18 months - he has not died yet...

I'm actually really interested in doing this, if anyone has any links to companies in the South West I'd really appreciate it.

I don't see this as any more risky than my current job, the companies aren't cowboys and the risks are miniscule IMO. I have many brushes with death just driving 50k miles a year, so I'd be no more worried about doing this.

I provided the link above, I cant imagine they're the only company around doing it either

I did one about 10 years ago while I was at uni in Belfast (google MDS pharma services if you want to know more about where i did it)

It was a 5 day study, we got paid £1850 for the 5 days, and it sounds like it was a drug very similar to the one mentioned in the op. It was something to do with diabetes anyway - cant remember specifics as it was that long ago now!

Had no side effects, week was good banter as i was in with a mate, we had endless supply of movies to watch, xbox to play, cards etc. The only annoying thing was having to give urine samples twice a day, get blood taken 3 times a day and being hooked up to a heart monitor for long periods of the stay.

Drug testing is pretty safe, but may occasionally be unpleasant.

Yes, yes, there was this one time and this dude lost all his fingers - but think how many trials there are, and how many people that must mean were involved, and you'll soon realise that they are just not representative.

The chances of anything hideous happening to you are so small, you're significantly more likely to be injured on your journey to/from the centre.

Yup its the same company, celerion have taken them over just. Do you have to stay indoors all day? No worries to bring in laptops or whatever?

I really am tempted on the premise of easy money like I said but then again its an unnecessary risk, I dont NEED the money at all.

Are you allowed to exercise also? I noticed in the lead up to your appointment you arent allowed brocolli, kale or similar veg. you also arent to exercise in the 48hrs before your appointment.
