Overclock q8400,p5q pro

Hi

I am looking in to overclocking my cpu. At the moment i have only chaged Fsb to 400 and left the rest on auto i am a newbie at bios clocking but knowing my way around in there. Any recommend setting to have?

I have seen a post by j.col Here Do i follow?

What's the full spec of your computer.

They have got to be the easiest chips Ive ever clocked.

If you have a half decent cooler you can easy get it to 4ghz

Stock cooler then.. you really need to think about replacing the cooler with something else before you overclock much higher as temperatures will begin to be an issue.

You have a stock cooler, you want an aftermarket cooler. Depends how much you're willing to spend. Something like this is good value for money and will keep your temperatures lower.

Is this one better than the one you posted ? here also when i buy it do it come with thermal compound? if so should i take it of and apply arctic silver 5 / is that what would be on it?

If you're willing to spend a bit more then look at this or this, both of which are highly rated. If not all then nearly all coolers come with thermal paste pre-applied, it's up to you whether you want to put your own on, it might make a small difference.

Hi thanks for the reply after check my temp on my old stock i notice my temps was really high being 42.c on idle and 73-100.c on a max burn test Scary stuff :rolleyes:

So I thought i better take this advice and get a marketcooler.
I got the artic Freezer 13 pro it is installed now with result below =)

Any good?

Do i overclock know/should i leave the heatsink work it way in more?

You can probably get up to around 3.6GHz for 24/7 use at safe volts and temperature. Just do it bit by bit.

I usually go in small steps like 100mhz, when it becomes unstable, up the voltage a notch and try again, if it's stable and the temps are still ok then repeat.
