Hi all,

My friend has a Dell Precision 390 that he is looking to use for video editing. Does anyone know what graphics cards it will support?

It currently has a Quadro FX550 which does not seem to be capable of playing HD videos.

I found this factsheet on the 390 which says that:

"Graphics: Support for PCI Express x16 graphics cards up to 150 watts and with up to 512MB graphics memory"

Can anyone suggest a decent, cheap card that meets the above?

Also I didn't realise that motherboards could limit the amount of graphics memory they could support. Is that a real thing or is it just dell being irritating?

Any help would be great.

Does he have a price range?

Listing the other specs of the computer may also help too!

I guess the list of possible graphics cards is shortened by the amount of space within the case.

I found this, the cpu has options so would be handy to know which one it has, as mentioned above, space is the main concern and the 375w psu will be a limiting factor too.

He has no specific price range but it does not have to be a very good card. It just has to be good enough for HD video, so I guess not more than £50. Sound about right?

The specs are:

Motherboard: 0MY510
Chipset: i975X
CPU: 2.4Ghz C2D (cant remember the number sorry)
RAM: 2GB DDR2 (about to upgrade to 4GB)

So do you guys think this one might do the job:

Thanks a lot for the help.

Should be fine for HD media playback but nothing more thant that really.

This is a good card :)

Great. Thanks a lot for the help guys.

I will tell him that the main thing is that it can fit in the case. I'll talk to him to see if he ever intends to do any gaming or anything.

Cheers :)
