Star Wars TOR-Cinematic Intro=totally incredible!!!

I actually got bored of that 'cinematic intro' and stopped watching half way through. Its a game, who gives a monkies backside about a theatrical piece? What matters is how it plays.

'The sith fleet has returned'
'We must warn the republic'
'Our ships can't outrun them' (Bellow private level trooper dismisses out of hand, how the hell would he know at a first glance)
'Well guess who's got the fastest ship in this sector' (Oh I guess that would be you then, you already annoying ****)

Well i guess any game with a story like rpgs aint for you then?
I on the other hand thought it was awesome, and have been hyped since i heard about this game over 2 years ago:D

The trooper class for me is made of fail.

I can people wanting to be Jedi (or Sith), I can see people wanting to be smugglers, but a low level grunt?

Oh contrare. I love an RPG with story, i just hate bad writing.

And yes 'Oh noes, the sith hath returned' 'We can't possibly outrun them!' 'Well, I can *wink*' is bad writing.

Troopers have some useful abilities that will be needed in group play, such as the commando having healing abilities and the vanguard having what seems to be a stun or snare attack, shields and probes that detect stealthed enemies. You have to remember these are not the troopers from things like star wars the clone wars that are just cannon fodder that follow jedi orders, these are special troopers that work along side the jedi.

And if it is like you say and everyone plays a smugler or jedi, then they will have difficulty getting a group while the rare troopers will be heavyily wanted.

The CGIs trailer are awesome but you know, I get the feeling they're rolling the hype machine hard core on this one, selling the idea of the game not the actual game itself. :(

Will have to watch this when i get home, cant play it with sound at work.

One day maybe we will get games that are actually like the intros when you play them, but I guess thats a long way off yet.

You obviously haven't played L4d the game is exactly like the intro.

It is an MMO.

The perpetual argument of openworld (not necessarily sandbox) vs themepark.

With most themeparks where you run from one quest hub to another whilst queing/lobying for dungeons you never actually encounter >64 people at any time.

Therefore not fulfilling the massively part of being an mmo.

No.

It took a render farm; "300 Super Micro dual-Intel Xeon quad-core Windows XP 64-bit render nodes with 8GB of RAM, Data Direct Fibre Channel-based SAN storage at 80TB, and 30 dual-Xeon quad-core clusters running Linux".
I disagree the PC could render this kind of imagery now with a slight loss in fidelity but no-one is going to fund it & target DX11 only 1.5GB VRam as the sales would not be enough to get their money back.

I think everyone gets used to the DX9 std we are trapped in for what seems forever & forgets just how powerful modern PC's can be but nothing is taking advantage of this right now :(

I love these cinematics, they should make a movie based on the same tech. Hopefully the game will be better than suggested in this thread :p

Well at least we can see where Bioware has spent all the money...

To be a bit contrary, I actually found the intro dull and these over the top light sabre fights became massively tedious during the prequel movies. I've never been remotely interested in the whole ancient Sith business either. However, just like everyone else I'll buy ToR, but I have a bad feeling about it... ;)

I smell a failure of legendary proportions in the making.

I liked the trailer, I can seperate it and the game and enjoy it for what it is, the guys who did it do CGI for many other games.
As well as liking the game, I don't delude myself into thinking any game can come close that currently.

I think you have no idea what you're talking about.

That's a great cinematic introduction!

Hope the game lives up to the hype which is so often the problem with games these days.

Watched an hour long play of a new character not too long back and it looks good, sounds good and plays well (or seemed to)
