No point in a detailed explination as its pretty much in the title, but to cut a long story short, my uncle wanted to borrow my car on Thursday as his is in the garage. Im working and will need my car during the course of the day and early evening so the answer was no.

However, even if I wasn't I still think the answer wouldv been no since I'm not comfortable with lending it out anyway. Call it paranoia if you want, but I've never really been complacent about letting people borrow my car, some people are though, don't think I ever will be.

Would you let someone borrow yours?
Have you in the past? (to whom and for how long?)

Personally, I doubt it unless it was for a very important reason. I lent my first car to my dad for a couple of days. But that was because I hadn't past my test and couldn't drive it anyway...

I let my old man borrow my car for a week once when i went on holiday.. NEVER AGAIN!!!, the car came back full of dog hairs, cig ash everywere, scratches to the interior, back seat belt bucket chewed by the dog, oh and cig burns.

I went mental when i got the car back.

My Dad has this habit of if it not his, then he don't give a **** attitude to things.

I ended up selling the car a week later after he wrecked the interior, and since then never let him anywere near my car's no matter how desperate he is.

I have a hard enough time trusting the girlfriend with my car, so no, not really.

Driving to Hull later this month, my Mum offered to be put on the insurance to "help with the driving". I actually laughed at her when she suggested it. :o

bloody hell thats bad, my old man curbs the alloys but he is very careful not to make a mess in the car.

Yup, would only let certain people I trust borrow my cars though. Let my brother borrow mine for a day because his was playing up, drove up to where he was, swapped cars and I drove his back...his didn't play up once for me and was great fun to drive. :D

I'd lend any of my cars to anyone that is a good enough friend or family member.

It's just a car and they know the score if they break/damage it.

He's your uncle. Why wouldn't you lend it him ?

If he's family then surely he's going to treat it like his own and look after it ? or am i just naive in thinking all families are like ours in that we care for each others stuff ?

Why not? It's just a lump of metal at the end of the day.

Obviously I'm not gonna lend mine to a stranger, but family/friends know the score. They're paying for any damage (but would drive like Miss Daisy anyways) and will return the favour if ever I need it.

But then as a car enthusiast I could see myself in a situation where I am not happy about some damage that has happened (say a trolly dink) and the other person not being bothered and not wanting to pay out because they don't see it as a problem or their fault.

If anything I'd much rather be in that situation with a stranger than a family member, at least with a stranger you wouldn't feel bad putting your foot down and demanding payment!

for once I completly agree with mikey :)

I don't care how nice my car is if they are legally entitled to drive it, whats mine is theirs, end of

Only if I know how they drive. For instance my dad and brother are both good with their cars and treat them well. My GF or mother on the other hand, no chance. Endlessly hold the cars on the biting point, kerb the alloys and generally don't care.
