Heyy i recently tried to overclock my i7 920, and found that i couldnt since i bought my computer pre made and the bios is locked, so i decided that i might aswell upgrade my motherboard along side some other components but i dont really know what to buy to make sure it supports everything i need.

At the moment i have a TBGM01 Packard Bell motherboard
It has 4 gigs of RAM (Samsung 2rx8 PC3 - 8500u) which i think is DDR3 1066mhz, i intend to buy another 4 gigs probably this
I have the i7 920 2.67ghz processor.

I also have a GTS 150 (Which is apparently the OEM version of the GTS 250) which i intend to upgrade to the 5850 xtreme

The motherboard needs onboard sound since i dont have a sound card and also space for a network card.

Im not looking to spend tonnes, but i dont mind up to around £100
Like i said i intend to overclock my CPU so something that will be able to do that :) Thanks in advance :D

i7 920 means an X58 chipset.

I believe the TBGM01 is a microATX board.

Can your case accommodate a full size ATX board or is microATX the maximum size it will take?

Even the cheapest X58 boards are over £140 at OcUK unless you delve into the clearance lines.

Even in the clearance section there are no microATX boards less than £195 but there is an ATX board for around £100.

If you need microATX for less than £100 you're looking at second hand.

Yup that's it. I just measured it and its approx 20 inches tall, 8 inches wide and 20 inches long.

Definitely the same case though :).

Is this the one in the clearance you were talking about?

So would that fit in my case?

Yes and yes.

The thing to be aware of with B Grade is that you may only receive the motherboard and not any of the accessories it originally came with.

Most of the accesories you can live without but the motherboard may not have an I/O plate to fit in the rear of the case.

Not fatal but it does leave things a bit untidy.

That motherboard has onboard sound and also a Gigabit network connection.

Thanks i think I'll order one now then, I'm not to worried about it looking untidy so long as it runs and lets me do what i want with it :D.

Cheers!

No problem.

I hope it all works out for you.

Remember, any problems any you can send it back under the Distance Selling Regulations for a full refund.
