Hi guys, going to be ordering this card at the weekend.

Last time I looked there was a cool little number with a free gaming mouse in a box. Now there is just a gainward one available from overclockers (my preferred supplier).

Does it make a difference which one I buy? There are half a dozen re-branded 590 GTX's out there with quite varied prices

+1 to the above.

These cards have so far been very unreliable and are outperformed by the cheaper 6990 (xfire drivers pending)

Go for the 580 GTX 3GB

if you get a 590 just be aware NEVER overclock it, it is like frank spencer in terms of strength when adding any voltage at all, in other words it will crumble and die most likely

OP,wait a while longer, Nvida are currently bringing out new revision 590s which correct the overheating issues.

Listen if you have the funds and want the gtx 590 get it.. My colleagues have have had it for the last 6 weeks with no trouble..awesome card

Nearly all 590s were recalled as they were going boom. A 580 may be a better choice or wait for the new released 590s to get the all clear.

Okay, I think I'll wait for the revision 590.

Before you told me about the revision for the 590 I was pretty much going to buy the 6990

I appreciate all your advise but does anyone know if there is any difference in performance between say a gainward gtx590 or an asus gtx590 etc etc? Or are they all the same with different branding?

unless they are factory overclocked by them companies then they will perform the same, temps may differ due to custom coolers though(unless they use the reference cooler)

Why are you thinking 590 instead of 580 or 6990?

If u have the cash and the rest ur ur system is on parr with the requirements it may need later i would say go with a 580 and add another if u think u need it, a lot depends on the resolution u play and also if u like to play with all the eye candy on, a pair of 580's even tho the cost is quite a bit more will pwn all over a 590.

I'd say 6950 CF is the best choice. Even 580 SLI is better if you go for the 3GB versions. GTX590 had some overloading issues, not to mention it doesn't have proper vram size for higher resolutions.

Id personally get 2 570s or 2 580s. Im not sold on single card 2 gpu solutions for some strange reason. They never seem to be perfect. Nither is two card solutions but they seem to be better.

Hi guys, I have taken delivery of a shiny new ATI 6990

Still haven't tested it yet but I am having trouble getting my second monitor to work.

I have the HD 42" Samsung connected directly into the single DVI port.

I also have the 22" HD HP monitor connected as follows:

Mini-port adaptor > DVI (supplied with card) > DVI to VGA adapter > VGA cable to monitor.

I have never had an ATI card before so the software is a little alien to me.

I have been through the Catalyst control centre and the monitor is recognised but will not switch in from standby?

Any ideas what I am missing?

Thanks ToM
