Win7 XP mode

Finally going to buy Win7 , might buy full version rather than upgrade but I see the home versions don't have XP mode using virtual PC & I have some old stuff that may not work without it.

Will I have problems if I don't buy the more expensive Win 7 pro?

research the old stuff you have and see if it works in windows 7. chances are it's already documented somewhere online.

It doesn't matter what version you use, but XP mode gives you an already licensed image. You'd need a spare XP retail licence to use virtualbox.

Another question which seems to give conflicting answers all over the web with most answers saying you can't dual boot bot versions.

I will have both 32 & 64bit full retail disks with one key but understand that I can't install both versions at the same time.

My question is if I install the 32bit first & then decide to try the 64 bit on another drive in the same computer why would I have problems validating it as the scan of my PC will show the same internal components.

Likewise if I reformat the drive with the 32bit & install the 64bit version it will be no different as using a different drive far as validating it goes.

I obviously can only have only one of the drives selected to load in bios at any given time so would it work ?

Well for xp mode your thinking of there you can only have it with w7 pro or better, as in the one that uses windows virtual machine and gives you a free key opposed to the one you set up your self. You can just get Virtual box (or something similar) and put your old copy of xp to get the same features.

Oh and dont really bother with the 32bit if your pc is 64bit ready, its at the point where there really isnt much need

I have win7 ultimate arriving tomorrow, I guess that with XP mode I can still use my older programmes so maybe I will install 64bit first on a new drive & see how I get on.

being able to open xp app without being in a VM windows is quite a nice feature for me

The licence states you can only have one installed at a time.
