Electric shavers.. Who uses them?

So I've been using razors all my life now, I tend to shave every 3-4 days to avoid major irritation and I do tend to get some reddening and occasional spots and ingrown hairs. I use a nivea gel and aftershave balm in my routine and usually jump in the shower after a shave in the evening.
This routine has worked out reasonably well as I've had a well trimmed beard for the past few years and so used a trimmer in conjunction, but now I've decided it's time for a change.

I went for the clean shaven look a week ago and found My preference isn't clean shaven or fully bearded, but with a certain degree of stubble or the ol' 5 o'clock shadow - judge me all you like but but I think it looks the best and would like to maintain it for a while.

I think the best way to achieve this is by using an electric shaver and having a dry shave, but interestingly the market seems to have shifted to trying to match the closeness of a razor shave and I'm actually after something that's marginally inefficient.

So what do you guys think, is electric the way to go, or am I going to have to keep trimming and enduring patchy/bald skin for a few days a week??

I just use my hair clippers and do my face when I'm shaving my head. Using electric razors for a close shave did nothing but cause me irritation, so I stopped and binned it.

I use this

This, right here, is where you are going wrong. If you want to shave regularly, you need to do it every day. Yes, I know it sounds counter-intuitive and, yes, I know when you first start you'll get some irritation but stick with it for a little while and you'll soon find you can shave every day without problems.

Just use a decent razor and proper shaving soap/gel applied with a brush not anything you mash straight onto your face. Also, shower before rather than after shaving, the steam and hot water will soften the bristles.

Mind you, now you've set your heart on having stubble face, that's all a bit irrelevant :p

Haha, thanks for the advice in hindsight, I'll bear it in mind if I ever want to go for a clean look again. I think doing a bit more reading and looking at ppls suggestions I'm going to get a babyliss I-Trim, seems to quite specifically match my needs :D

Remmington have a really good selection of beard/stubble trimmers - well worth a look on the rainforest shop some good prices on there!

What about a 'Philips Bodygroom Body groomer TT2030'

Don't bother. The foil kept pushing in & it turned out to be useless.

I've used Philishaves (usually the cheapest as they don't last that long) for most of my adult life & they do the job for a while. Replacement heads are expensive though & the last one I bought cost less than the head for may old one. :)

I owned a foil shave too but that ended up cutting my face.

Euchh, I hate using them. I'll use a beard trimmer for some stubble look but if I'm going clean shaven a wet shave is best.
