battlefield 3

Thanks for the replies. I take it this is the card you went for relentless.
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560Ti OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

My monitor is a Dell 24 inch and I'm playing at 1920x1080. I was thinking also of getting a Dell 30 inch but its pricey and I'm not sure I need one.

.....560 should be fine with the 24inch get much bigger and the aa might start to be a prob...but this is all guess work as we have no idea how hard on the gpu bf3 will be.....

shouldnt be to bad in our lovely console port society. :P

Battlefield 3 is a rare exception to this, developed with PC in mind first :D

if he only wants to play on medium/high settings he could get away with getting a cheaper card like the 5850 for just under £100 and would imagine would easily run on medium/high. I Would also rather go for the 6950 if basising on price/performace against the 560 going by whats available here. You might actually want to overclock the cpu to be honest also :)

Sorry for hijackinging the thread, but my spec is as follows:

i7 920 @3.4GHz
6Gb Ram
Vista 64bit
ATI 4870x2
Gigabyte EX58-UD3R

and

Corsair 650W PSU

My question is, (and I have no idea about the answer) would my PSU be powerful enough for the latest graphics cards. I'm thinking about upgrading closer to the time when BF3 comes out, not sure what card yet, maybe one of the current GPUs once their prices have fallen a bit towards the autumn.

Also, does anyone any advice as to which card would be suit my setup, budget ~£250 but could stretch a little further if the benefit was there. Will my CPU be a bottle neck?

(sorry for the noob questions but I am a bit clueless when it comes to pcs, so I just bought one of the prebuilds from overclockers a couple of years ago)

Well yes it will be fine i look at a 6950 or 6970 or a 570 anyone of them would be fine and you cpu is fine you could always do a little overclock if you wanted as well.

Thankyou for the advice. It already is overclocked from 2.6 to 3.4, bit it came pre-built oc'd to that and I have no clue about upping it a bit more and its not held me back yet.

I presume the PSU will be ok for a 570 or 6970?

Your i7 920 at 3.4 is absolutly fine. Dont worry about that at all. Also your psu is all good for all the top end cards really. yeah the 6970 uses 306w at load from what ive read here

I have the 6970 and its a good card :D

oh you might want to get windows 7 though for dx11
