If you have to ask, you are someone who should wear it down. I would personally wear a button-up shirt to go out in the evening rather than sportswear anyway.

I'm wearing a lime green Lacoste polo right this second. If I had the collar up I would look like a complete plank. Collar down every time. Also pics of the shirt??

Not really, other people can wear what they like. Polo shirts are by origin sportswear, but often worn outside sports nowadays - I would do during the day, but not generally to go out in the evenings. No need to be hostile.

Origins mean nothing, you'll find lots of polo shirts for sale as casual wear
