Is there a (preferably free) app that would allow me to see where my iphone is located when lost or stolen. Also, if I could wipe it, maybe set off an alarm etc

I know my mate used an app on his HTC which he raved about

You want Apple's app Find My Iphone. This does everything you've described. Realistically though, I'd imagine that if someone stole an iphone the first thing they would do would be to factory reset it.

I use Find My Phone. But that requires a MobileMe account. And of course, MobileMe is no longer accepting registrations because they're switching to iCloud. iCloud should be free, it'll be iTunes match that'll cost. I would assume they'll retain the Find My Phone feature in iCloud... so when that launches you can (probably) use that.

Tied it and get this message

"Device not supported, this device is not qualified for free MobileMe service."

When trying to sign upI get this 'Cannot sign up'

This device cannot be used to sign up for a free mobileme account. Sign up using iphone 4, ipad or ipod touch (4th generation)

Anyone have it working on an iphone 3GS?

Ive set this up in the last week and had no problems, on your phone just go to add a new email account, select mobile me and sign in with your itunes log on. Job done.

Was this on a 3GS?
I dont have gmail, yahoo or aol email (just hotmail)

I tried logging in with my itunes account and it didnt work

Could you provide help on how to get it working on a 3gs. Thanks

Ah, admitedly it was with a 4. But given that the OS version is the same surely it should be the same? You dont need an email account, just go to new account and pick mobile me.

I think you can register on a 4, then use it on a 3G

You can. Or at least could.

Wish I'd done that with my 3GS before I lost it. Insurance company has no 3GSs left so I'm left with my old HTC TyTN (which, fortunately, I didn't trade in). :(

Not that it would have helped - I knew where I lost it but it had already gone. Fortunately save having to get another phone there have been no consequences.
