bought an h50 for my i7 950 , running on my ramp 2 extreme mobo.

from stock to adding 2 akasa viper fans my temps havent changed at all.

on idle iam getting anywhere between 35-44c ( depends on day , its getting hot here some days) i really thought if i got 2 descent fans i would be able to overclock but not with these temps.

any idea's why theres no temp change betweem 1 stock corsair fan and 2 akasa vipers?? ( ive tried push/pull ,, them both blowing and both blowing out , it makes no difference to temps at all lol)

thanks a lot.

Both blowing won't help.. they need to be both blowing in the same direction: ie. push/pull and they need to be sucking cool air from outside the case and blowing it inwards...

Goes against all pc cooling logic but it works better that way :)

(unless that was meant to say 'both blowing in' in which case, ignore me lol)

Are you sure the fans are running at 100% and you've seated the pump correctly, because either of these could have caused the high temps.

See I did the opposite to this, admittadly I also havent been religously checking temps either but I setup my H60 so the stock fan was blowing through the radiator and out of the case, not in. However, one thing on my case which may be different to others is the top of the case has vents so the hot air rising from the mobo and gfx card is escaping out the top. I would have thought a case without top vents would accumalate hot air inside, by the exhaust fan blowing inwards the heat cant escape, as Im guessing you already have an intake fan at the front of the case drawing cold air in.

You could try a push/pull fan setup with the H50 with the air flow going out the case. Maybe that will help?

Ive also seen a couple mods on the net where people fit 2x 120mm fans back to back and then attached to the radiator, blowing in the same direction through the radiator, basically doubling the air flow, just make sure both fans are blowing in the same direction.

HTH's

ive tried all the configs you can explain and for someone who said reseat it...why??

my argument is from stock fan to 2 askasa viper fans , temps havent changed at all.

and yes it did say blowing in.

think iam just gunna buy a nochua.

edit : mines the cooler master adanced II case , its all mesh at top with x2 exhaust.

if the heatsink isnt sitting flat on the cpu, it wont transfer heat as well - you may as well try and see if it helps before throwing down more money

Idle temps are not a good reference. Load temperatures are what's important. Do a Prime95 or similar test for a while and see what happens to those temperatures.

As far as I know the i7 9xx are just hot CPUs.

The Viper is only about 200 rpm faster spinning than the stock fan and Push/Pull doesn't make that much difference anyway. The Viper could also be running at lesser speed than the stock Corsair and could account for little difference in temperatures.

But still you need to load up that CPU to see how it's actually doing.

ive researched the h50 a lot and it seems it aint got the power to even cool an i7 properly , never mind an overclocked 1.

thing is i want my cpu to be running 80% load 24/7 ( iam running bots on a game ) so i need it to be at a nice temp.

Yeah deffinatly try to make sure its seated properly im using a H50 with x2 Apache Blacks and it works fine for me.

I went from a H50 to a Noctua NH-d14 and it is louder and to me, the temps were no different. I even have the same case :p

Ignore idle temps - what are your load temps?

+1

I've got a cheap Hyper 212 cooler which idles at about 35 degrees (stock speeds) but then on 100% load with Prime95 it rarely goes far above 50 degrees.

Granted we have different cpu's and coolers but it gives you an idea that idles don't mean much.

h50 are ok that arent gunna make there i7 work...i for 1 want it to be running 80-90% 24/7/ also clock it to 4ghz.

at full load its like 72c which isnt good for a standard 950.

iam gunna reseat the h50 and put 1 of the fans on the outside of the case and 1 on the otherside of the rad and see if that does anything.

if all fails its a nochua.

thanks for replys.

edit : reseated h50 , pea plob in middle of cpu didnt spread it ( my m8 rapid said its just as good if not better ) ive put a viper fan on the outside of the case and other 1 blowing towards outside (push/pull) idle temps have droped 5-6c alone , so very happy with that. I used artic silver mx3 , does this take time to cure or is it good from the go?

did a burntest for 15mins and reached 66-68c ( max it hit )

it was idling at 36-40c before burn , if i clocked my 950 from 3ghz to 4ghz , would there be a lot of change in temps?
