Just thought I'd post this for anyone who is looking at getting a B2S deal :)

For the third time in the past four weeks, we're hearing rumors of the imminent launch Apple's Back to School promotion. The first claim expected the promo to kick off the last week of May as it had in previous years. Then, WWDC was listed as the possible launch day. Both dates have come and gone with no mention of Apple's popular promotion.

Now, @Chronicwire, the same source as the MacBook Air rumor, claims that Back to School is going to kick off on the same day.
LEAK: Apple Store displays will be updated Tuesday night for the Back To School promo, starting Wednesday, alongside the new MacBook Airs.
We've also heard whispers, as has 9to5Mac, about the Tuesday night visual refresh at Apple retail stores, but haven't had any confirmation on the contents.

@Chronicwire is a relatively new source for Apple information, though its believed they do have legitimate sources for information. We'll find out on Wednesday. The Back to School promotion typically offers students a free iPod with any Mac purchase.

How long do the B2S deals last? As I hope to get a MBP but would be nice to get something a long with it from the B2S offer :)

Hopefully the airs will come down - been looking at one but I cant quite afford to spend £800 on what is essentially a netbook yet!

Ah, exactly what I was waiting for,

am I right in believing that with a Uni Student I.D + B2S offer, you get:

~15% discount
3-year AppleCare (either free or at discount, unsure)
Free iPod / (or possible iPad discount?)
Free printer?

I believe it changes slightly each year.
Yes to discount.
Applecare if bought online - but their special one which isn't quite Applecare.
iPod rebate (the cost of the cheapest one - so fork extra for the 32Gb).
Printer is a rebate too but not always a free one.

*Finds someone at uni to purchase my goods* :D

exactly this. They get fat loans that they get to pay off 20p a week for the rest of their lives..and get a discount on most PC based products... most students just doss about and get ****ed.

People who work/Pay Tax/Contribute to Society...Pay full price.

Excellent.

Fat loans?
Not really.

Most students don't. Not al the time at least, most will at some point, but also put in a LOT of effort.

We then put in more to society after we finish.

A laptop is a necessary part of uni life, you do actually need one now, there is no doubt about that.
And Apple stuff is just completely out of a students price range without these discounts, and some students need to run Apple only software.

For the record, yes I'm a student, yes I have a car (which I don't need, it's a luxury) and I have a nice laptop, but I have 2 jobs in order to fund this, most students live on bugger all and spent a lot of time worrying about money.

No, not really. Universities do provide on-site facilities to do this. A laptop is a luxary just like you stated your car is. ;)

So you've been to a library in the 3 weeks running up to exam period?

You are pushed to find one most of the year during the day, let alone even a space in the library at any time of the day or night in exam period.
And I am serious there, you can turn up at 5am and the library will still be absolutely full.

And lecturers send out emails letting students know of cancelled lectures, extra work, changes to things, everything.

Everything is online now for uni, and you simply cannot be expected to go into uni to use a computer just to check your timetable (you don't get a physical one) or to find the coursework (which is rarely handed out in a physical form).

I have.

So print one out at the start of the year, if it changes then print another one out. Then print out your coursework. ;)

Stop been pedantic.

And every time you have a question for the lecturer go talk to them or use a uni computer to email them?

Things get changed at VERY short notice at uni.

A laptop is needed, everyone has one, as they should, but very few people have macs.
Most people spend a few hundred pounds of their initial loan when they aren't broke, and make it last the entire time there.

I wouldn't call a laptop or computer for a University student a luxury, it's a necessity these days.

When I went to Uni in 2000 everybody had one.
It was really only foreign students who tended to be the ones who used the library computers most of the time. I personally only used them when my course required it, or I needed to download something, due to the halls rooms only having 56k connections.

Let's not forget that Apple aside, you can get a laptop very cheap these days.

It's been a good few years since I was a student now, at the end of the day, they get a discount on one Mac product, such as a laptop which should last them their entire University life. It's not a discount they can just keep using to buy loads of products.

Once you are out of student life, the idea is that you are supposed to be able to afford to buy Apple products without discount (given that they are a premium product in the computing market). If you still want the discount, find a student who hasn't used their Apple allowance and convince them to help you buy one.

If anything the real saving with the Higher Education discount is the free Applecare.

How did people pass university courses 20 odd years ago when ICT wasn't about. People still passed.

I do think ICT is a luxury. They arn't needed to pass every course. Some of them are required yes like the ICT ones but not all courses.

Except the vast majority of courses require submitted work to be word processed these days.. if not all.

Anyway back on subject... Im not at uni, but have a friend who is. How would i go about ordering over the phone getting the HE discount? I want to use his card yet i want to pay using my card? will they allow that?

I'm a little confused of what all of this debating is about?

Laptops is neither a necessity nor is it a luxury. It is a tool, if you can afford one then it will surely help with your studying.

:D I'm glad someone pointed that out.
