Ok quick one.

If I was going to collect something on the 18th/19th of June, would you say "this weekend" or "next weekend"?

Next weekend to me is the 25th/26th.

"This weekend" is the end to the week you are currently in.

"Next weekend" is the weekend of the next week.

So yes, you are correct.

This weekend.
I'd say next weekend, if it were a weekend and I meant the weekend in a weeks time.

The only time my week starts on Sunday is when work want me to fill in time sheets which is a great big arse ache.

this - this coming
next - the weekend after
last - the weekend before

however, this can also be used for 'this weekend just gone'. I guess there is a tipping point at Wednesday where this goes from the weekend gone to the weekend coming

IF day = Sat/Sun THEN (This weekend) = current weekend

IF day = Mon-Fri THEN (This weekend) = the weekend that is approaching AND (Next weekend) = the weekend at the end of next week
