Hmm... Maybe I got the whole "No iPhone this year" wrong :p

I would love to have a new iPhone this year :D There just wasn't enough rumours around for me to believe it. :p

I think it is a possibility, with the launch of iOS5 coming up, it would be a good (planned?) opportunity for them to push a new phone with it. Can always hope :p

Yep, a bit annoying for those of us on the 3GS that aren't sure whether to hold out or not. It does the job still for now, so guess I'll wait till the autumn and weigh things up.

I'm loving my Apple paperweight. Aka my iPhone 3G :(

Can we please take the handbag twirling elsewhere? Or I'll ask for this thread to be closed.

I am very tempted to get the next iPhone, moving from my Desire, however reading about iOS5, the the lack of the below features, I am a bit put off that things I take for granted will never be on the next iPhone and I would miss, and make me hate owning an iPhone.

Maybe some current iPhone users can quell my fears about the below features not being present and how realistically do not matter in the real world.

A) No Flash support in the web browser (What real world impact does this have on websites?)
B) No quick toggles for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G
C) No Bluetooth file transfers to other phones (It's handy for when my girlfriend takes pictures of the kids and can bluetooth the images to me and vice versa)
D) App folders still are limited to 12 apps tops (so I can only ever have 12 apps installed at once?)

A) Never really been an issue for me on iPad or iPhone - but I may not visit the same websites you do!
B) WiFi and 3G stay on all the time, never needed to use bluetooth.
C) Email
D) Not at all, you can install as many apps as you have space but can only sort them into folders of 12 each.

Flash doesn't matter, the majority of websites aren't reliant on it and it's mostly adverts that are.

I never bother with toggles.

You can transfer files to other iPhones, but thats it. You could just setup Dropbox or something and share the account, then you both have fast access to any pictures you want.

You can have as many apps installed as you like.

Just to put what I'm saying into perspective, I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation.

A) Doesn't bother me.

B) Wifi kind of 'hibernates' when you're not doing web active stuff, so it's not draining the battery. I do turn it off if I'm out of the house, but that's more to stop it trying to join loads of Wifi networks. 3G seems to be a bit similar and 'wakes up' when you start checking email etc. Turning them off takes all of two seconds.

C) Email or possibly their new 'drop box' software which is part of Lion.

D) As noted you can install as many as you want, but folders are limited to 12 each.

Regarding C) Apple's cloud stuff should be useful for this, even if you dont use a mac afaik the 'cloud' stored stuff can be accessed by Windows PC's running Itunes.

Some interesting replies there, thanks for clearing it up. The flash stuff is mainly for watching the BBC weather forecast off the website if I don't catch it in the morning.

Also the wi-fi toggle on the Desire is a god send as sometimes (this may be Desire related or Superhub related) the wi-fi signal does not respond and no internet pages load at home, meaning I have to turn it off on the phone then leave it and then turn it back on, and a quick toggle is very handy from the drop down notification bar.

Guess I just need to wait now for a release date for the iPhone 5.

:)

A) No Flash support in the web browser (What real world impact does this have on websites?) Never really been an issue for me either, most sites cater for iOS with HTML based video or an app.

B) No quick toggles for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G Wifi and 3G are always on for me, BT take about 5 seconds to turn on. Settings > General > BT > On

C) No Bluetooth file transfers to other phones (It's handy for when my girlfriend takes pictures of the kids and can bluetooth the images to me and vice versa) As said you can just email it, although it is a bit of a pain if you'r eused to transferring stuff with BT.

D) App folders still are limited to 12 apps tops (so I can only ever have 12 apps installed at once?) I currently have 104 apps installed so no, you're not limited to twelve.

Those two are annoying - can't deny it. B) is easily fixable using a jailbreak app called SBSettings. Nothing you can really do about A).

I do miss Flash occasionally. Flash adverts aren't sorely missed, and Flash games are rubbish on a touchscreen anyway, but the main difficulty is when you come across Flash video and there's no HTML5 or app alternative. I guess you have to weigh up the lack of Flash against the massive range of apps available for the iPhone.

12 apps per folder but an unlimited amount of folders. And you don't even have to have them in a folder. You can have them out of folders, and the number of apps you can have is only limited by your storage.

As for point A) flash websites. The only thing i miss is not being able to play flash video. That and the odd website that works in flash, usually timing screens for motor racing for me, but there are only a handfull. Doesn't really impact on my enjoyment of the phone.
