What Freeview box? (Cheap SD... with HDMI?)

Hi there,

I'm after a freeview box. It can be fairly cheap, as I don't yet have Freeview HD.

Internal HD would be something I would pay a bit more for, not massive capacity though.

Pictures will be going on to a 24" LED monitor, which has HDMI input (+ VGA/DVI), so therefore an HDMI output would be required... perhaps not a usual feature on an SD box though I'd imagine!

Sound will go into my Rega Brio 3 amp.

I have looked around and have genuinely NO idea.

Thanks in advance!

Was looking at the Humax HD-FOX T2, which looks nice but as I don't get Freeview HD I was thinking maybe a cheapo box would be a good idea for now..

Just get a cheapo freeview HD box from a supermarket, they're only 30 quid now and you'll get HD channels whenever they're turned on in your area. Who needs PVR functionality when iPlayer etc. exists?

I have dodgy internet (no control over that)... but always have reliable tv signal!

Edit: Also, it needs to be viewed on a monitor hence the HDMI, not many cheap ones seem to have that.

The only thing with the cheapo supermarket ones is that I doubt you'll get one with freeview HD, and with a HDMI output, they're usually just scart.

Go and have a look :p!. All the 'unbranded' ones (Technika/Alba etc. etc.) are about £20-40 now, they're all the same Vestel boards anyway. Even branded ones are about £50.

I'll check it out, I have to confess I haven't looked in a while, though I did notice that the old style diggy boxes had the same menu, £60 philips box, £20 cheapo .. menu exactly the same, don't know if they were "vestel" boards too.
