I'm thinking about a budget upgrade. I've got an ASus ati 5770 and was thinking about picking up another one and running crossfire.
Used 5770 are still expensive on ebay but seem reasonable online.
Would I be better going crossfire or spending about £150 on a better card?
My current rig, asus p5wdh, e6600, 4gb ocz ram, vista 64.

I'm also confused by some 5770's being single slot, are they still as good as double slots?

Thanks in advance

I would crossfire another 5770 and wait tilll the end of the year and see what ati bring out next 7xxx . Ive had 5770 crossfire since they came out , and they have done the job very well . I dont know what the benchmarks are for 5770cf V 6870 but i bet there is very little in them .Plus a 5770 is going to cost you half as much as a 6870.

I run 5770 in crossfire and am happy bunny :)
at the moment am thinking of going for single 6970 but the reason is I will be getting screen with higher resolution. from 1900x1200 to 256x1400 :)

Nearly all if not all of the newer games support crossfire . And if your playing older games then 1 5770 should be enough . I can honestly say ive loved my 5770 crossfire its played everything ive thrown at it . Im going to keep hold of them untill back end of the year and upgrade .See what 7xxx cards are like .

as above, depends what games you play and at what resolution
myself at 1900x1200 dont have any problems at all with any games ( dont play too much so maybe I missed some high demanding games(?) )

The prices of the 5770's on ebay are crazy. If I could get £80 for mine I would buy a 5850.
Can someone clear up the Ati hierachy for me? There's far too many numbers and I've no idea what card follows what.

Sorry to hijack this, but I'm thinking of getting another 5770 and crossfiring it with my current Asus 5770. Problem is, the Asus one I have now has only 512mb VRAM, if I get another 5770 with 1Gb VRAM, does it total the values up to 1.5Gb? Or does the 1Gb drop down to 512mb?

Even if it drops down, does that leave you with 1Gb total, or is it just 512mb still?

it will drop down to 512mb am afraid...been there done that :(
games will see 512mb

It's not worth xfiring a 5770 at this stage the cost of another 5770 you are better off selling current 5770 and getting a single 5850 and overclocking that to xfire 5770 level.

5770=£84 single slot
5830=£88
6850=£120
5850=£117
6870=£124
5870=£160
6950=£180
6970=£246
do these prics look correct?
Does it matter what brand of card you buy?
