I think my X-Fi Fatal1ty just died

My XFI Titanium has given me 100% perfect and reliable audio with the exception of only 2 times ever, and I bought it a good while ago... Possibly 4 years too.

The first time it went funky, Ireseated it and that cured it but the second time was a little more problematic.

I uninstalled EVERYTHING to do with the card, and I do mean everything, I even when and looked in all teh PCs nooks and crannies to seek out any remaining Creative debris, and trust me, there was a fair bit, and once I was happy that I could get no more, I installed the card in a different slot.

Been flawless ever since.

I have now swapped it for a Xonar and sure, the xonar is possibly a tad better I grant you, however, I use the junk on the drive bay box, and while I have now also added a FrontX panel, I cannot at this time add my Guitar to it like I used to on the XFI, but at least I got Firewire back.

hey mate, Was it the fatal1ty with the front drive bay?

If so - any chance you wanna sell me the cable that links the card to the bay please? ta.

Hahahahah, I wish I had mine mate! Would mean I could use optical out on the front for my headset instead of switching sound devices all the bloody time!

You can use an IDE cable just fine with them...

I know that Im using an IDE cable with either an Audigy 2 or 1 btu I see no reason why the XFI wont also be useable with one.

Not on UDMA33 cables but yes, UDMA66 ones do have a blocking pin.

Basically the old IDE cables ( 40 wires / bumpy ) will often be fine but new ones ( 80 wires / not so bumpy ) will not be

Aww dude! you shoulda told me earlier!

I sold my X-Fi a couple of weeks ago (as I didn't really need it) - AND i found its original cable!. So I had a spare cable!

Just to confirm up until then I have been using a REALLY old IDE cable - They normally have 40 pins but one of the pins blocked out - You need to find one with all 40 pins available and that will work fine (as pointed out above) ;)
