BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Just spoken to BT, supposedly I have a fault on my line. :o

It seems when you ring BT its pot luck whether you get to speak to a muppet or someone who is half decent at their job.

Why did the BT person I spoke to on Saturday not see that I had a fault on my line? :o

Muppets.

In between router restarts (5 times remeber) Im posting this.

I hope my internet is going to work at all for the next few days, with a fault on my line and (Iv lost count) multiple restarts it keeps dropping the broadband after about 5 minuits. :o

About 6-7 restarts later, my broadband is still flapping, requiring further restarts.

opethdisciple, I would just leave the units off for the night there have been some reports that constant cycling on/off have caused the modem to fail totally.

In fact I would say ask for a replacement modem as you think the fault on the line has damaged it! worth a try as I know from previous posts you have had some problems with your internet.

Looks like the FTTC upgrade for my exchange has been pushed back from September to March... Which is quite silly considering only 5 minutes away are homes connected to another exchange with FTTC

But why are they shaping STREAMING SITES??? One of the reasons BT are deploying FTTC/P is to carry there BT VISION system which will include HD content with the faster speeds.

BUT then again they can make that stream a priority on the network so ONLY the BT VISION system works with out any buffering. Crafty beggers!!!!!!

Did they say what kind?

Nope.

Im still going to request new equipment, when/if they fix the issue.

Makes you think, wats the point in being able to download up to 4.5MB/s when sites are broken and things are throttled anyway?

Better of where I was with Bethere, slower speeds but unthrottled :o

Oh and stable, at present, im literally turning on/off 5-7 times untill the hub can hold a steady connection.

Sisters was meant to have Infinity installed this morning. Turns out BT have ****** the order up by ignoring her MAC code, so now she has no phone or broadband and the engineer has done a runner...

Oh hes back, was gone for over an hour apparently she needs a new number now :)

LOL hes got no 30 meter extension cable on him great... his first appointment of the day aswell.

I have just got a call from Chris Dunn Executive Level Technical Complaints

He is going to deal with the battlefield issue.

I'm impressed that Ive got such a response from BT like this.

Thing is, is he trying to trouble shoot your individual case or system wide?

I too received an email saying someone tried to call me. Im at work so I wasnt able to recive the call, but it would  if all they wanted to do was tell me to start forwarding ports etc....

That is not the issue!

Edit*

For your information Locky (Dont tell BT this)

You can get the browser to load, but you must give it about 2 minuites, before pressing the x button, after that you will get some results to display.

In the msg he left me, he admitted it may be the traffic shaping system causing this and is monitoring the network.

He seemed to know what he was talking about.

Come home from work to find my speeds again have decreased from 8Mbps up and 37Mbps down to this:

Now a turn off and on (6-7 times) will fix the issue, but can I be bothered?

Itls be about 1hour untill it is stable agin after gone through the whole 6-7 turn offs...

:o

This is what it was two days back:

Can some one do me a favour and upload the latest flash for firefox and flash for IE, Infinity is being retarded again with under 2Kbps speeds from adobe site.

Any other alternatives, like filehippo etc... all seem to have the same speeds. Just mirrored links I think.

You dont need to turn the home hub off.

It's to do with what BT central you are connected on,

Go to Advance, then to broadband, in there connection, disconnected and reconnect, your IP will change and you will be on a different central.

Check with "what is my ip website" to see the location you are connected.

Mine varies from Nottingham, Derby, Coventry, Leicester. If I get slow speeds I do this and it usually sorts it.
