I have no dedicated sound card nor do intend on getting one, so I was wondering if I go with the roccat kave's 5.1 headset? or stick with the cheaper alternative HS1a which I know is 3.5mm and by the way I am easily impressed coming from a 'Pound Shop' headset :p.

Thanks for the advice!

Why the consider the analogue version of the Corsair's? Without a sound card, the analogue version is only capable of stereo. If you are after surround sound, then best to consider the USB version, which is capable of surround sound. Personally I'd take the Corsair's, but that is somewhat down to my dislike of these multi driver headsets, such as the Kave's.

The USB version of the corsair is said to be much better than the analogue one in all the reviews I read.

Its the same exact thing with a dolby headphone soundchip built in to the cord...
even the xonar DG (£20 soundcard) will beat USB audio and comes with an amplifier and the dolby headphone that the USB version has as well

Got the analogue corsairs here after being away from headsets since selling the shocking sennheiser pc150's a while back.

they sound immense through Xonar D2 :)
