looking for some open headphones for cmss3D, want to spend around £100

i have the sennheiser hd238, they are really good but want more clarity and less distortion in games

the ones ive been looking at

Sennheiser HD558 £105
Sennheiser PC360 £115
Audio Technica AD700 £100

what would you guys recommend?

I have the AD700 and HD598 and I think either are good choices (so the 558 should be too), but the AD700 takes it for me in the soundwhoring department. This is using DH though not CMSS3D.

I can't speak for the PC360, but many people believe they are HD595s with a mic stuck on.

I have the PC360s and use them for gaming with CMSS 3d from an x-fi gamer card. Can't fault them, I know where everyone is around me in Black Ops. Not used the others so can't compare.

I've got SteelSeries 5HV2, quite happy with them. They lack punch in the bass unfortunately, but are quite clear and the CMSS 3D works well with them.

Senn HD5** (555, 595, 558 or 598) or Audio Technica AD700.

The above have angled drivers. If drivers aren't angled I wouldn't recommend for CMSS-3D Headphone.

For soundwhoring HD598 are the absolute best, followed closely by beyerdynamic DT880 then Ultrasone HFI 680 then AD700 them HD558

At least with dolby headphone those are my findings, with CMSS3D i can't be sure they carry over perfectly in rankings.

Only potential problem with the Beyerdynamics they tend to emphasise the harsh, clinical sound typical of the Creative cards - tho it can help to offset the closer/muddier effect you get from these HRTF type systems.

Angled drivers give a physical head related transfer function (HRTF) type effect.

CMSS-3D headphone does some things well but I find it never really gives an effective frontal auditory illusion for headphones that have straight drivers. The angled drivers help with that.
