Just built my first PC, got a couple of questions.

Okay, I've been about here a little while now bugging some of you guys with silly questions. Well, the computer is finally build, but as said in the title, there's a few questions I need answer to.

First off, I bought a HAF X case, and for those of you who may know, it has an air duct thingy inside that's supposed to direct air from the front fan to the GPU(s). Now on mine, as I have my card installed (just one card), I can see the duct thingy where it was originally mounted would be in a lower position than the GPU is now. But if I mount it higher, only a bit of air is actually going to be channeled through it.

So any ideas what to do with that?

Also, the cable that runs from the PSU to the CPU was too short to be rerouted around the back of the case, so it's just on a direct PSU to CPU route right now. Is there some kind of extension I can get to help tidy things up a bit?

And last thing, for now, I have two USB cables hanging from inside the case. The heads on them are the typical USB heads you'd usually plug into the front of your computer, only, these are just hanging there. Any idea what I'm supposed to do with these?

Thanks for any help! And all previous help given to to drag my uneducated a** up to this point has been greatly appreciated :D

I'd probably just take the duct off, you can still use the fan. Your GPU won't run too much hotter, if at all, with it removed.

Search for an ATX 8pin to 8pin extension cable, they're out there.
Here's one on OCUK: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CM-008-NX

Does your usb thing look like this:

These are for the front or top USB 3 ports on the HAF X. There are no standard motherboard headers for USB 3 yet so this is the interim solution. If you have USB 3 sockets on the motherboard then plug them in there or route them through the back of the PC to a port on the backplate. It's an ugly solution but the only way to get case USB3 at the moment.

Cheers mate. That's not the USB type I meant though, I got them plugged in :)

Ahh. Hmm, what does USB 3 offer that current USB doesn't? cause if I don't need them yet, I'll just tie them up and leave them inside.

I just found it now, but I have another problem. Now, the cable with 'CPU' on it has 8 pins at one end, and the other end has like 10 pins, but with wires only going to 8 of them (like 4 hollow plastic bits where the pins normally sit). The end with the 10 pin-type socket wouldn't connect to the PSU, only to the CPU socket, so I used the proper 8 pin plug to connect to the PSU.

Now that extension has grips on either side to clip onto an 8 pinned plug, but the side of the cable I have connected to the CPU socket is the 10 pin-type plug, so the extension dosn't attach itself properly.

Now, I do have another cable that has 8 pins on one end, and on the other 4 sets of 4 pins which when pushed together fit an 8 pin socket. Would that be okay to use on the CPU?

Thanks for the replies so far, I really appreciate it :D

Can you post a picture please? What PSU do you have also?

What PSU do you have?

There may be 8 pin connectors for graphics cards - usually split into 6+2.

There's usually an 8 pin connector for the CPU - usually split 4+4.

I've never seen a 10 pin connector on a PSU.

The extension with the HAF-X has an 8 pin socket on one end where you plug in the cable from the PSU and an 8 pin plug which goes into the motherboard.
