Gentlemen's braces/suspenders

My boss is a hugely decent guy, fiercely intelligent but very personable with it. Today, he turned up looking nothing like the below image apart from the braces/suspenders :

Some back story : New Zealanders, as a general rule, are not huge on ostentatious or 'garish' or 'different' choices of clothing in the workplace (certain obvious exceptions would be lawyers etc). He's a man of 61 and is very traditional in his attire. It came as a real shock to me.

Now, I ask you, GD fashionistas one and all, braces : **** YEAH! or UH, NO THANKS

(this is not my boss for those without access to a television for the last 30 years, this man is an actor and is pretending but does, also, look LIKE A BOSS)

I wear red or two tone checkered braces with 95 pattern combats, DM boots and an MA1 flight jacket.

Fine to me. Functional, classic and stylish - assuming the wearer isn't a fatty.

Braces/suspenders go back a lot further than that dude but you're right, my choice of photo was a bad one

I actually own some braces, however they were purchased for fancy dress!

I quite like braces but I think it takes a certain person to wear them. Unfortunately, they are mostly worn by people who shouldn't be wearing them, as such I don't think I'd ever sport them before the ripe old age of 50..

I personally don't mind them, an old boss of mine used to wear them.....although I think they suit the more middle aged gentlemen rather than young guns.

I read up recently about braces on the highly fashionable sophistacated gentleman's websites and apparently braces should be worn instead of a belt as the belt's buckle can spoil the 'line' of a suit or something.

I have worn braces recently and my goodness do they define your bottom

In addition to which a cummerbund, worn with evening wear, feels somewhat cumbersome with a belt on (braces are the only acceptable form of trouser retention device for evening wear).
