I really can't see why they'd want to take you on but go for it.

You have tons to gain and nothing to lose.

how mature are you?
16 is pretty young and you'll still have plenty of time to get work experience when you are older. it is a great opportunity though and will hold you in good stead

but like you say your whole summer is gone and you won't get these care free younger days back to enjoy!

try and negotiate part time, but if it's all or nothing, the sensible side would say go for it. or if you will miss out on a lot of otherwise enjoyable activities maybe decline? :O

I'd give up my summer in a heartbeat for a chance like this! There's always next summer and A-Level-to-uni summer which is long a ****!

I consider myself more mature than my peers, as they are still immature and silly in a lot of ways, however I still do have the odd moments of sillyness

Yeh I will be trying to negotiate part time, or a combination of full and part time, and apparently he was fairly flexible but I do not know

Just be careful you don't cut off your nose to spite your face by seeming to demanding :)

this is what I will be putting in the covering email:

Dear Sir,

Mrs. Brown has forwarded to me your contact details, as I understand you are looking for someone to work for you over the summer. I am very interested in, and would like to be considered for, this position.

I have attached a copy of my Curriculum Vitae, which I hope gives you an indication of my interests and experience.

I am due to sit my last GCSE paper on Friday 24th June 2011, there are some post exam activities, which I am committed to as I am supplying sound equipment. My availability is better from Monday 4th July. Mrs. Brown was uncertain about the time commitment for this position. At this stage I already have some prior commitments through the rest of the summer, some of which are flexible, and some are not e.g. I have enrolled in a lifeguarding course from the 24th to the 29th July.

I would be happy to work full time for some of the summer holiday, alternatively I would not mind working part time for more weeks, or a combination of both of these.

Yours faithfully,

Alastair Hellard

that look ok?

I'd just leave it to asking what the schedule of work would be like, rather than dictating terms of when you're available. That is, he might realise he's giving you an excellent opportunity, and be a bit annoyed that he's got to work to your terms rather than his.

Dear Sir,

Mrs Brown has forwarded your contact details to me, as I understand you are looking for an intern to work over the course of the summer period. I am extremely interested in this opportunity, and would be grateful if you would consider me for the position.

Please find attached a copy of my CV, which I hope will give you some indication of my experience and interests.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Yours faithfully,

Alastair Hellard.

I'd just send that, and then once he's agreed in principle to you doing it, move on to schedules etc.

ok yeh I may do that, that was what i originally thought but didn't want to commit to anything that I hadn't said any problems about.

just waiting for 'Mrs Brown' to get back to me on the email and to get his address :)
