What cables are needed for GTX 580?

I've recently purchased a Asus GTX 580 Direct Cu II which needs 2 8 pin PCI-e power connectors, or at least thats what I assume it needs. I've looked everywhere online and can't find anything! I've checked my PSU and it has 2 8 pin slots and 2 6 pin slots to spare for pci-e. So what cables do I actually need? Can't find any 8pin to 8pin pci-e connectors nor can I find any 8pin to 6+2pins either. So does this mean I have to use a 6pin to 8pin (which I have had also had problems finding) or do I need to buy 2 6pins as well as 2 adaptors for it?

Any help would be HUUUUGELY appreciated.

Cheers

Use those two then? Or am I misunderstanding?

The PSU would have come with all cables, assuming its modular.

No what I mean is it has the slots spare, not the cables. The PSU was a free hand me down from a friend so I didnt get everything that came with it. And yes its obviously modular.

did it not come with the cables?

All the graphics card came with as far as cables go is 1 y splitter.

y splitter? It should come with a double molex to eight pin and possible a double molex to 6 pin.

Your PSU should have two cables with connectors like this:

Connect put the 6 and the 2 together and use them for the 8 pin connectors.

Edit

Just seen your post above.

If you haven't got the cables you're a bit buggered.

You don't want to be running a GTX 580 off molex adapters.

Well unfortunately it didn't. Literally just the splitter and the sli connector :S

I might just bite the bullet and get a whole new PSU as 1: I was going to eventually anyway. And 2: I can't find anyone online that sells the correct spare cables. Unless you guys know anyone in which case please post some links for me.

we can't post competitor links.
Try contacting the manufacturer

maybe try and contact powercool? direct and see what they say

Yeah might do actually. So does this mean pretty much nobody sells "spare cables". Also, if I was to just buy a new PSU would this one do?

I don't think I'm going to be going sli with it since it uses 3 slots at the back of the case and the only way I'd be able to fit em in is if I took my wireless network card out which I'm obviously not going to do. So 850w should be fine right? The rest of my specs are:

Asus P8P67 Pro mobo
i7 2600k
Asus GTX 580 Direct CU II
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz
Samsung Spinpoint 1tb HDD
Sony Optiarc AD-5260S 24x DVD±RW & DL SATA Optical Drive
Tp link TL-WN851N network card

Have you thought of buying a low power Powercool PSU to see if you can use the cables from there. I would post a link but it would have to be a competitor or flea bay. £35 should get you a low end PSU that might have the same connectors.

However I think I'd invest in a decent PSU the Powercool ones do seem to get a low rating.

Andi.

Yeah as I said, was a free hand me down. The watts is fine but the amps on the rails are terrible! I'm just going to order a XFX 850w black edition psu

Had a couple of issues now. The PSU has arrived (xfx 850w black edition) and have installed it along with the Asus GTX 580 Direct CU II. But for some reason as soon as I switched the PSU on a high pitch whine would start and wouldn't stop unless I turn on the computer. But then when I turn on the computer the gtx fans make a horrible sound like the fans are off balance. Which might be the case as the card is so big and heavy it sit at a very slight angle in the case. But after a few seconds the sound stops and everything goes back to normal...until I turn off my computer in which case the whine is back again! Any suggestions? I'm not 100% the whine is from the PSU but im like 90% sure. Since it never made that noise until I installed it. Might be the PSU is causing other parts to make the noise, i dunno. Any help would be great!
