Serious Overclocking issues, help needed

Yeah, using the probe, the highest it will go is 62 so that is good I suppose, I am using a titan fenir with a hades case packed with fans on full wack.

All seems pretty stable so far exept the multi going to 8x every 30 seconds which is really annoying.

If its dropping the multi like that - its throttling mate. Your hitting the limits. Best to take a step down - aim for 3.8 or 3.9Ghz instead.

If you've disabled cool n quiet and C1E - I can't see why the cpu would drop mhz other than 'throttling'.

If your running windows 7 ensure power management settings are set to High Performance too.

You are right, it is throttling. When the X6 gets to 61 Degrees it throttles. I have a good airflow case and a titan fenrir cooler so it's annoying that the temps are quite high. I guess it's 3.7GHz unless I fork out for water cooling.

Something very strange has just happened.

I decided to take off my fenrir and re-apply paste. I was tightening one of the screws and the bloody thing snapped! Booted with 3 screws and it went to like 80 degrees so I decided to use my unused stock hsf. The temperature is now at 67 and it has stopped throttling??

Really annoyed at breaking my £40 cooler but good news on the stability front :D

I am assuming it is my motherboard. Should I take this back or the ram?

** Edit - Also, psychas & lrlcr. You have similar set-ups to myself, could I kindly ask you to tell me what voltage your CPU goes down to when running prime please?

Thank you

sorry forgot to post back my volts when i run prime dont go down they go up.

without runing prime it is 1.404 ~ 1.416 when ruining prime increases to 1.428

edit: if your ram is rated 1.65 run it on 1.69 or 1.7 my would not be stable on overclock at 1.65 might help

still 1.5v for 4ghz on 1090t bit high try using bit higher volts on memory maybe this cousin your stability issues.

your nb voltage is high as well

OH NO! - Unlucky mate, happened to me a long time ago so I've always been careful applying anything around the CPU lol.

DONT try to overclock with your Stock HSF - its rubbish - I'd highly recommend a Corsair H50 if your adamant on getting 4.0 - They are good for overclocking.

Once you've got a new HSF - chech out this document - It's mainly aimed at the deneb CPU (965's etc.) - but it applies equally well to us Thuban (X6) users: http://sites.amd.com/us/Documents/AMD_Dragon_AM3_AM2_Performance_Tuning_Guide.pdf

Haha, at least I'm not the only one then :p

Did a bit of testing today on my day off. Strange but true:

Stock HSF - 4.0GHz stable for 2 hours @ 73c (I know, i'm an idiot)

Titan fenrir - 4.0Ghz Stable for 2 hours @ 62c BUT, throttles every 50 seconds. The multi goes down to 4x.

How the heck can that be possible??

Anyways, sick of all this and my mad obsession to hit 4GHz has pushed me to buy a c70.

and thank you zoomee my Yorkshire friend, I will let you know how the old water goes.

Well, I installed my h70 today, max temperature is 52c with 4GHz,

1.45v Vcore

It starts to throttle after 10 mins of prime

I am going to smash this thing up soon.

Patience mate ;)

Your probably gunna need more vcore which should be ok taking into account your only hitting 52Degrees c!
