Pretty large Riot last night after some Hockey game:

I always thought Canadians were too laid back for this kind of thing, apparently not.

Third vid around the 3 min mark has some guy trying to protect the storefront and he gets jumped on and given a swift kicking by several scumbags. Video 2 has a retard jumping over a bmw on fire, he falls and almost sets himself alight, yet lands and throws his hands in the air like "i meant to do that".

Hmm it was in downtown Vancouver. I expect the riot caused thousands of dollars worth of improvements :p

What a bunch of bad losers. I suspect that there were an awful lot of hooligans in with the fans.

The Stanley Cup final is hardly "Some Hockey game" but doesn't excuse stuff that even English football hooligans left behind years ago!

Some of the pictures online are priceless, people in full view of cameras nicking things and attempting to torch police cars!

One of the worst sports in existence?

Hardly, it's a pretty decent and athletic game. Makes me laugh when you see precious footballers roll around when Hockey players take a stick to the face and don't think twice.

Herd mentality is pretty amazing. At what point does the switch flip? One person says let's go smash a shop and everyone thinks he's a nutter, but at some point it reaches a critical mass where it becomes acceptable behavior. 20 people? 100?

the point at which you out number the authorities so much that you are convinced you won't be caught or punished.

My favourite X girlfriend is Canadian & Yes they are generally a mellow bunch, You should read up on there Armed robbers though before making up your mind. ;)

As for the Riot I've been swept along by Mob mentality many times when I was young it's intoxicating, I've seen proper Placid Dudes go Nutz once in the right/wrong crowd.

I can't see myself joining in at any point even if there was no police. Or even be near them. What possible benefit is there to gain from doing that stuff? Not like they are over throwing an oppressive government. Just sheep trapped in some weird groupthink. It's quite scary how many people operate this way... completely unencumbered by independent critical thought, just going with the flow of the herd.

Although to look at it from an evolutionary point of view, groups which didn't have this intoxicating mob mentality would be less able to form a cohesive aggressive army and kill their competitors though out history. You ask one single guy if he wants to charge at 10,000 Romans and take a pike through the face and he'd probably say no thanks. But get enough of them together and pumped up and you have an eager army. Maybe the independent thinker gene got squashed out by these mobs.

Exactly, its a fantastic sport and its a shame it isn't as big over here as it is on the other side of the pond. It'd be a dream come true to go to an NHL game.

^ Ice hockey is probably the only sport I'd pay to watch (other than women's beach volleyball and women's doubles tennis). But that's largely due to the fights.
