BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Mine has only just come back on. Couldn't connect at all since 4:30. The DSL light on the Openreach modem would flash green, then go out, then flash green etc.

The BB light on the HH would stay a solid orange.

EDIT: And just went down again.

Aaaand I'm back in the game.

Faulty modem. Had to be replaced this morning.

Boring! :o

My connection is dropping daily now. Still requiring 5-7 turn off and ons of the equipemt untill stable.

Max speeds have totally dropped to 22mbps from 37mbps....

:(

The more you reset it the longer it will take to get back up to full speed to be honest. I used to reset the modem a few times a day too but I haven't reset it for few weeks now and it's stayed at full speed all the time:

This is really boring now.

Im litterally still turning it on and off, since I posted at 8pm....

I had written a reply my connection had droped I press post and lost the reply....

Basically it started out out that ever 1-2 weeks overnight my speeds dropped from 37mbps down to maybe 20mpbs a turn off and on would sort it out.

The last few days it daily dropouts of the dsl light on the modem and the brodband light on the hub (even if the dsl light is steady on the modem)

The speeds are dropping over night from 37mbps down to 4mbps, the hub/modem is now requiring (Iv lost count) 7+ turn ons and off untill finally the broad band stays up for a day, untill tomorrow when I do this all over again.

I have been in email conversation with some one half competent (in the UK) after phoning India, sorry BT on two occasions and getting no call back as promised.

The last I heard from them on Tuesady is that I have a fault on my line....

Butthat could just be bs.

There is defo something wrong, eithe I have a line fault or my equipemnt is dodgy.

These are my max speeds now, after about 100 restarts, I think I maybe stable for the evening.

Usually those speeds read 37mbps down and 8mbps up. :(

In the past it doesnt take time to go to full speeds, I should be seeing full speeds now. Those are my max speeds. So there is a BIG issue.

Also my ping is twice as slow.

How are you not getting the message that you should keep the hardware running without restarting it? :p

Seems he doesn't want to know unfortunately; everytime you reboot the modem the speeds drop because it appears your line is unstable so you're only making it worse.

Call BT and get an engineer appointment otherwise deal with the issues

OP like others have said,
1. GET BT out to CHECK the setup.;)
2. AND DO NOT KEEP TURNING THE GEAR ON/OFF. As others have said, the DSLAM in the CAB will think there is a fault and DROP the SYNC SPEED. ;);)

After all when you look at it VDSL is in principle like ADSL just with a Higher BANDWIDTH because its only sent over short line lengths where the attenuation is low BUT you get the faster speed because it uses 7Mhz bandwidth not the 2.2Mhz like ADSL2+ uses. AND when BT increase there speed to 80mbps then this will use a 12-14Mhz band width. This has just been passed for use by OFCOM!!

Because of these factors if the line is poor with ANY noise from doggy joints, or ALLY cables (YES STILL POSSIBLE TO HAVE THEM EVEN TODAY) then BT NEED to CHECK it. The openreach tech will first check the line with there line test tool and check its clear with NO FAULTS (which you say they have reported there is one). And no they dont just give you BS to say there is when there isn't one on as they do check them. And trust me with a 7Mhz 600 Ohm impedance circuit which is what it is then ANY TINY bit of crap on the line WILL rear its ugly head. ;)

Internet has been turned off last 2 hours.

Cant get it to stay up for more than 5 minuites.

Either Broadband light on Hub goes down or dsl light on modem turns off.

Only way to get either back up is to turn it off and on again.

About dropping speeds from cabinet, I would just get BT to reset it.

I have a major issue, which has basically deteriorated to the point I have to leave the hub/modem off now becuase there isnt any point having it on!

Whats your IP Profile? - http://speedtester.bt.com/

Have you got BT coming out?

Possible crosstalk?

What happens if you wait for it, dont turn off/unplug everything?

.

?

Sounds like a dodgy modem. Call BT, tell them that the modem won't connect. They'll ask you to unplug your landline and will run a line test and call you back on an alternate number. Then they'll arrange an engineer to come out and replace your modem.

I had the same problem.

Skippi this is what he should have done days ago, he's even said BT have found a fault on the line.

I started to have problems with my BB Thursday of last week, its a business line so I called them Monday afternoon after spending most of Saturday and Sunday checking different things with my gear, EG tested 3 different Hubs, Line cables filters face plate filters the usual stuff.

Anyway, when I called them the very nice girl I was speaking to asked if I needed to use the line for 5/10 mins asked me for a contact number she could call me back on. 15 mins later she called me back with OK looks like there's a problem on the line I can get a Engineer to check it for you.

This he did Wednesday and called me in the afternoon to arrange to come to the house Thursday which he did and all is now sorted with a 7041kbps 1100kbps sync. That's from 3804kbps!!!!:D:D:D:D

AND the point is I now know that the lines ready for the speed BOOST in sept when we get FTTC live in the area;);):D:D
