30th of June strikes.

i was going to lol, but really it isnt funny, wtf have they got to winge about they should try thinking about the what the soldiers have to put up with before they think theyve got it hard.
As someone already said, sack em thiers plenty of people looking for jobs.

I know, right? Fighting wars they don't believe in and can't win whilst taking orders from people who view them as cattle must be hell. They should go on strike ;)

And no surprise you've posted the most :p

I have an opinion and experience on the subject matter - what of it?

Soldiers only have to put up with what they signed up for.

Why do we need to pay for war for anyway?

I'd rather have good employment back home than dead bodies abroad.

Ah yes - everyone should just be gratefull they aren't being shot at!

That viewpoint sounds a bit left wing/authoritarianism to me - has your Communist party membership expired yet?

I have to disagree with you there - the government is the only employer that can change the employment law it is supposed to adhere to.

For example, when PCS won it court case stating that the the forced changed to the CSCS were illegal. "Fine" said the government, "we'll just change the law". How many other employers have that option?

That's an exceptional case, because there was an exceptional law creating the Terms and conditions outside of standard employment law in the first place...

It's a matching based scheme as far as I'm aware and nothing for AVC'S

Oh, here's what the government say about average civil service pay btw - thought I'd post it for a laugh:-

Nice to see the general public disbelieving what the government say - and here I was thinking all along that it was the government building this myth about the civil service and making them despised.

It turns out it actually just the Telegraph and DM readers after all!

But the figures for total compensation look very different when compared...

The Government can legislate and amend as it sees fit.

The Superannuation act is not exceptional. I don't know how often you need to be reminded of this, but Government legislating for it's own actions is indeed a very normal process.

If Government did not legislate for what it required, it would not happen.

Hmm, so are you saying pensions are simply deffered salary?

In a way, the contributions to pensions can be considered deferred salary, and the unfunded final salary schemes in the public sector give equivalent employer and employee contribution rates of around 30-40% each if calculated using a standard model.

Hmm, that wasn't a response I was expecting.

Ok, so assuming pension=salary then it's ok to unilaterally reduce salary?

its very frustrating being in my position, teachers walk out and its ok, slightly annoying but ok, I walk out as an Intensive Care Nurse and people die. how do I get my voice heard. teachers slightly nark me off.

I believe Hitler imposed restrictions on Trade Union action and membership years before he killed any of them................

But hey, if you want to roll the dice and see what way they land up then be my guest.

Rolled the dice and now you`ve ruined my evening. The wife`s a member of the NUT and I`m in the private sector. I don`t know which ****es her off more, the fence down the middle of the bed or the fact she can`t get straight to the ensuite bathroom
Get a grip.

What on earth? You only pay in 3%?! How much does the Gov put in?

lol I'm private if I put 3% in, and even think about the priviledge to retire at 60 I get the veritable kings ransom of £3600-£4800 p.a. depending on taking of a cash free lump sum. By which time I have to wait till at least 67 to get a state pension, and I'm not holding my breath on that one, they'll find out I have at least 1p in my bank, and I'll probabley not be eligable anymore.

Party till I die!

Are all the unions putting free coaches onto London again? I hope so, I had a great day out on the last strike and got absolutely blasted and went round harrods steaming.

£10 - £13 a day.

Gross.

What a party!! :D

indeed im surprised OCUK is so hard right wing and tory loving, its like Thatchers wet dream around here sometimes

Not read the whole thread but from memory most threads like this are not as biased as vested interests would believe. It's as if opinions that agree with you are skimmed over as being the norm while opposing opinions are blown up as hitlers love child / the second coming of marx.

Personally I don't see striking as heroic or brave, brave would be to put your notice in and stick to it. If the government really expected every teacher to resign they would *never* dare even suggest the pension changes they have.

A few days trike though - who really cares? Given the low voter turnout in strike ballots not even the striking workers.

God damn yes.

**** strikes. Lets trike! That'll have them, we could do wheelies up and down the offices with our pants on our heads!

It would certainly liven the place up a bit :D ;)

My wifes a civil servant she has had a pay freeze for a while now and when she starts ranting about her wages she says she has had a pay cut because she has not had an pay increase to match inflation!!! God forbid if she ever joins the real world.
