New FWD Norschleife record

Stripped and lightened maybe? Just seems odd that a 350+bhp Impreza, and a 400+bhp M3 would only be 1-2 seconds quicker.

If it is a representative time of the production model it's very impressive.

Offically a 280bhp Impreza actually ;) And if memory serves correctly that's a 2003 Spec C. The latest Imprezas are sub 8mins.

Thought the M3 would have been quicker though..

Just on RE050A rubber, nothing trick, no weight loss, no suspension modification, simply a 15bhp/15lbft power hike over the 250 cup and the different tyres, pure proper wheel drive win.

Christ on a bike - road tyres too.

Thing with FWD though is that you can push that 10% harder knowing it's unlikely to bite you in the ass.

Whilst obviously RWD is the purest form & super macho for skill honing etc tbh for outright fun I prefer FWD. FWD gives you 100% care-free hooliganism & that ticks my boxes.

two seconds say between the M3 and this Renault is massive. Especially considering the last back straight length. Pretty impressive, but I doubt this car will be far off the cost of an M3

One of the reasons I love my car, I'm never going to be the next Jenson Button, so might as well embrace that and get the best tool for the job, something that will give me as much speed and fun as someone as decidedly average as me can physically get.

You could buy 2 of these and still have change from the price of a new M3, £27.8k this car will set you back, quite expensive for a hatch, but still cheaper than the Focus RS, Golf R etc by a considerable margin.

fwd is more than capable of biting you in the azz very hard

It can, but I think the point being made is that you can take and push a FWD car 10% more than you would with an RWD, before things can go wrong.

With a FWD you're likely to go straight on, with a RWD you're likely to go around all over the place! :)

Not bad, i'd still take the Focus RS though personally.

[Edit] Actually, looking at the similar cars, i'm not sure I believe that car is totally stock.
