Stuttery video playback with HD 6450..?

I have just installed a HD 6450 in my media pc, which was running on the built in 3000 graphics which worked well but skipped the odd frame in 1080p vids now and again. So I thought the HD 6450 would be a good upgrade but now I cannot even play a 1080p x264 file without masses of jerking and stuttering, Its far worse than the onboard gpu.
I have tried completely uninstalling the drivers and re-installing various versions but its still the same.
I have 4gb of Ram and a X4 630 quad core cpu so plenty of power for video playback.
Has anyone else had any experience with the HD 6450 and playback issues or any ideas as to where i'm going wrong as surely a 1GB 6450 should be far more powerfull than a onboard 3000...??

Cheers

Checked the PCI-e bus is running at the correct rate? (x16, and not x1 - check using GPU-Z). Only really mention it as I've got this problem recently on another PC with a 4350, and no matter what I try it won't run at x16 (have tried all the tips listed on Rojakpot, etc).

All running at 16x 2.0. Just had a read and so far nothing but complaints for the 6450. Strange for a card that has been reviewed as the "Ultimate media centre card" by many of the big name reviewers..
Going to try a re-load and fresh install later if that shows no improvement its going back as so far its a load of crap...

As you say, that card should eat 1080p video.

May I ask what video playing software you are using and have you installed any codec packs?

Also, is this the GDDR3 or GDDR5 version of the card?

Using K lite codec pack and either XBMC or Media player home cinema. Both of which work well with my onboard 3x series gpu with 256mb of allocated system ram..

Its the DDR3 version, as it was purely for video and media playback I did not see a reason to go DDR5..

As said, should eat it up. In fact, the HD 3x00 onboard should also be fine. I'm not a massive fan of codec packs. Maybe you could try VLC and see how it performs?

Will give it a go once the kids are in bed. There must be something a miss somewhere as this card should be an improvement over onboard but so far its a downgrade..

All fixed now and playing all videos nice and smooth. Seemed a re-load and all is good, XBMC is running a dream and the card is now a great improvement over the onboard...

Is it a passive card. I initially had a similar issue with my 5450 passive card. Would get too hot and video would stutter.

My 5450 is passive, and it copes with 1080p in XBMC admirably. Passive isn't an issue.

Good to hear :)

After watching Transformers 2 the card was hot but not too hot to touch. Now its working ok i'm really immpressed with the 6450. Perfectly smooth playback from all sources. Cloudy with a chance of meatballs blu-ray plays flawless, on the built in 3xx it stuttered a bit..
Superb card for less than £30..

I know this is an old thread - but I'm in a similar position.

I've just gone from a laptop /w HDMI (HD3000 i3 CPU/GPU) to a Core 2 Duo E4600 with HD6450 and playing MKV's seems to have micro-stuttering and sometimes weird 'tearing' across the screen.

Did you just uninstall and reinstall the drivers? Do you install all the components or do a custom install?

Any help would be appreciated.

Just curious as to whether this issue has been solved, just installed a HIS 7850 with my 3570k but am experiencing micro stutter in xbmc. Disabling Aero solves the stutter 100% BUT as Aero controls the refresh rate I get a fair bit of tearing despite any settings i've tried. It's either stutter or tearing so far :(

I am very much considering the 6450, but was trying to hold off for the 6570, even though I know I won't use it for gaming.

I have a passive 6450 in my HTPC. its a great card for the money.

I had stutter issues with 12.3 (and 12.4 iirc) drivers, but I just went back to 12.2 and no problems since. I don't run any codecs, just let vlc do its thing.
