Green Laser Moron

Cheers for the comments guys. :)

My eye is still blurry on the outside of my field of vision, so I've made an appointment to see my doctor after work.

The blurriness is getting really annoying now and I can't stop myself from blinking as my eye seems to think it'll clear itself. :( If the opportunity arises, I will definitely be persuing this further.

That is an idiot thing to do. I can't stand those types of people. I hope something gets done about the culprits..there is no need to carry green laser pens around - or indeed any laser pen.

It's very anti-social and dangerous.

All the best with the eye doctor, I hope it clears up for you.

Kind regards,

If it was a cheap green laser you should be ok after a few days.

I have a green laser paid around £120 for it it will pop balloons/light matches etc if it was one of those you could be in for serious eye problems :/

Could damage != will damage. There is no conclusive evidence that it causes damage.

Most laser pens are under 5mW which shouldn't cause damage to the eye (although it can if focused). There are no laws restricting more powerful lasers distribution. 25-50mW are fairly cheap and very dangerous if they catch you in the eye, you will only be able to look into the beam twice. Stronger laser beams can cause tissue damage with bleeding/scarring of the retinal blood vessels. This can lead to bleeding into the optical nerve and brain which can kill you. It is even possible to buy 1000mW portable lasers:

I have a friend who bought one of these, of course he is not stupid enough to ever shine it at a person and it is nice to have the freedom to buy such things but idiots like those in the car ruin it for everyone.

Been to see the GP. Fortunately there is no sign of any damage to my eye, but they said to contact my optometrist if symptoms don't improve over the weekend. Also, not heard anything from the police yet.

There hasn't been any evidence to suggest that such lasers cause any damage to eyesight. Even still, a dangerous thing to be at. Hope the 5-O catch up to them.

Yes but you dont know what type of laser it is or the class of laser. Now yeah class 1 or 2 who cares but if he has rammed another diode in there.

I had a green laser shone at me from across the river last year while I was on my bike. My left eye was blurry for a few hours. If it had been one of those 1W lasers you can make from a blu-ray drive, it would permanently blind the target. Even closing your eyes wouldn't help, it would shine straight through your eyelid. I hear even the light reflected off nearby surfaces can blind a person, so you can't even look at the spot it shines on surfaces.

Bloody dangerous things, and you just know eventually some scrote is going to get his hands on one by saving up his dole money, and he's going to cause car crashes with it (if he doesn't end up blinding himself with it first). And then they'll be banned, thus ruining it for people with legitimate uses for them.

Why would anyone actually need one of these. And if they are this dangerous, shouldn't they require a licence. Not wanting to sound like a killjoy, but why are they on sale to the general public?

They we're behind you?

Stop, get out, remove occupants of car, or if they lock you out; the windscreen wipers... :D

No, they were on the opposite side of the road.

I can appreciate the usefulness of lasers, but can't see why anyone would need such a powerful one (there may well be a good reason, I just can't see it). I mean, we made do with ultra low powered £2 efforts from the market for years, so why people need a laser that can burn stuff and readily blind someone is quite beyond me.

Why would someone buy one of these ? For what purpose would it be used for other than causing mischief ?

I hope your eye is ok, if it were me i would have definitely followed them.

I hope the Police sort this out for you, but I don't think banning the lasers is going to achieve much.

Cheers hurf. :)

I think you're right - banning them won't make much difference. People will just turn to making their own or ordering them from abroad.

I'm glad you reported it, too many of these things go unreported. unfortunately even reporting it doesn't necessarily mean anything will be done about it.
