I thought I would share my traffic experience today, bit of a personal best for me.

I was going from havant (from work) to a parcel force depot in Camden. The trip using the a40 to get into london, is about 200 miles there and back.
I left at 11, and due to some chuffing accident, the a40 was closed while I was stuck on the hammersmith flyover. I got to the parcel force depot at 3. So a two hour trip took 4 hours.

Then from the parcelforce depot, I didnt get to the company in chichester till 8 oclock, FIVE HOURS. the a40 was still shut (causing chaos around that area) the M25 and m3 were crawling, and the A3 was at a standstill from guildford to the M25.

so In total, SEVEN HOURS of delays, worst days driving of my life. Didn't even manage to get back to london.

share your traffic woes :)

Well you shoulda teken the bus... oh wait... ;-)

would have taken a train which would have cut my trip short, the box was 5ft long but didn't weigh much.

I don't understand why people would live in london, you can't move anywhere without a billion people rushing everywhere and taxi drivers not letting you in and cutting you up

London is my idea of hell on earth.....yea i said it

Seriously i can't understand how those driving on the M25 and the surrounding roads don't lose the plot/flip out

Coming back from Cambridge i was stuck on M25 on my way back to Wiltshire at 4:00 friday after noon on a really hot day  The full version of Road To Hell, Chris Rea was on the radio, 5 hour journey , that's my worst !

Worst I can recall is Sunday afternoon driving from SB to LAX to go home a while back, was a nice day so thought I'd drive PCH - FAIL.

Turns out there was an accident closing the road and maasssive tailbacks, and basically nowhere to go either other than wait it out - took about 5 hours to get from Oxnard to Santa Monica (usually is about 45 minutes) and missed my flight by several hours :p

In 2009 (i think?) when we had a load of snow just before Christmas, a trip from Camberley to Basingstoke which usually takes 25 to 30 minutes, took me 10 and a half hours. I could have walked it quicker.

Hmmm, two particularly bad ones i can think of

First was a trip home from taunton, headed for stoke, usual journey time was about 3hrs.. on that occasion they had closed the M5 @ J7 and all the motorway traffic had been forced off onto the normal roads. Total trip time ended up being 7.5hrs

The other was a an evening of particularly heavy snow in stoke, might have been 2005/2006. Coming home from work in crewe and going through newcastle under lyme with people having abandoned cars all through the town. Normal journey time of around 20-25mins and on that occasion it took a good 5hrs

After a day trip to France yesterday I was driving back from the Eurotunnel terminal to Basingstoke, about 115 miles, should take about an hour and a half to an hour 45 ish since it's motorway all the way. It ended up taking over 3 and a half hours. I guess people really don't know how to drive in rain. The M20 was screwed, the M25 and M3 were also and so was the A3 which I would have otherwise turned off at to avoid the M25. Oh well.

Also 3 or 4 weeks ago it took me over 5 hours to get from Birmingham to Basingstoke - that's normally about 2 hours. A34 was at a standstill and it turns out was actually closed due to a lorry hitting the central reservation. I turned off at the next available junction after moving 1/4 of a mile in an hour. However from that point on every alternative route just had queues of traffic. Not happy.

Longest I've been waiting in traffic was about 30 minutes at J32 on the M4, I've been diverted only one time ever :D

I spent 5.5 hours without moving on the M40 one night, then another 30 minutes to crawl past the accident.

Actually, I think I posted on here whilst in stuck :D

4 hours to get out of the shortstay carpark at heathrow after some muppet decided to end it all by jumping off the exit to the tunnel.

11 hours to get from Stafford to Watford in the pre Christmas snow fun. More jack-knifed lorries, fishtailing beemers and idiots abandoning their cars on the M1 than you can shake a stick at.

At one point my car was pirouetting around Milton Keynes backwards. Scary stuff indeed.
