My New Fish Tank

Update: Also updated first post.

Right, I have gone and got some fish, I have only purchased 5 so far as so the biological cycle doesn't go haywire.

This is what I got today:

1 Siamese Fighting Fish

Nice tank :), glass / ghost shrimp are great, I have 3 of them and they are always interesting to watch. I want to get some cherry shrimp as well soon.

I would love marine fish but they are harder to keep happy. Just seeing that tank makes me want to start something again.

Nah they're not that hard, we've had our marine tank since October and all the fish we've bought are still going strong, we've had some casualties with some bits of coral and a few shrimps but that's all :)

That really is a nice tank. How much did the tank and accessories set you back?

In total it has been £60 (plants, ground stones heater etc...) the tank is a return tank (Still came to me like new) maybe they picked the wrong one off the shelf xD

are those real plants?
Yes they are real, I haven't thought of adding CO2, cheers will look into it.

Nice tank but i dont think your fighter will like it as they like to come to the surface to gulp air.

There is an opening in the top middle, just not visible as it is covered.

Guppies chosen do not resemble a rival of a Betta :)

Doesn't matter imo, any guppies with long tail fins will be chased by the Betta day in day out. Can you imagine the stress that puts on the fish and you yourself will also be stresed out seeing this behaviour in your tank.

Betta fish should be kept alone, i know some people say they can be kept in a community tank but that is very rare.

Good luck and just keep a watch out, if your Betta doesn't like the guppies their fins will be shredded in no time.

Cheers for the post. The guppies I have atm don't have that great deal of a long tail. Usually the Guppies bob around the centre of the tank and the Betta is usually at ground level.

When the two species meet they usually just go past each other so far, no conflicts as of yet.

I agree the guppies will have trouble off the fighter - That is if ANY of the fish actually survive. Fish IN cycling sucks. Should have fishless cycled with ammonia before adding fish. All that bio load into a brand new tank on the second day is going to end up with ammonia and nitrite spikes. At the very least the fish will be ill / distressed, at worst dead. Unless you are doing 50% water changes every 4 hours.

Good luck.
