I was given a HD5450, done me ok for genral pc stuff, gave it to my dad now for the same reason as you, wanted a cheap card with hdmi port on it for his TV. For the price, cant moan about it.

If you look on some reviews, you can see Nvidia cards strangely gives a poorer quality image compared to AMD cards. Personally I would go for the cheapest 6450 as it has UVD3, which should allow better video playback. which one would equal a 9800gtx just in case 1 wanted to play a game.
