R.A.T 9 vs Razer Mamba

Being able to change the shape to fit your hand/grip type is a big bonus for the RAT also.

And can't say I have any issues myself, with the side buttons.

I have mamba and and really like it, the shape is perfect for my hands. had a deathadder before it and it is very similar.

However it might be worth noting that Razer are going to be releasing a new mamba soon that has a laser and an optical sensor plus better battery.

Avoid the RAT 9 like the plague, friend of mine had one and extolled the virtues of the spare battery and charger up until both batteries started to fail and he discovered you cant buy replacements, as they do not sell them separately.

Now its just an overengineered paperweight that he can modify to fit his grip before he puts it on a pile of papers next to a real mouse....

I use a well worn left handed DeathAdder, just hope they bring out a LH Mamba, as I need a new mouse.

Whilst being a very good mouse, my RAT9 sits and gathers dust mainly as one of the batteries died, and its just not handy to keep remembering to turn it off and remove the battery for charging while needing a 2nd mouse on standby all the time.
Until such time as they sell or replace batteries only, I would have better gone with the RAT7 for longevity reasons.

I hate the RAT, while the one i have is the 7 and wired, as a mouse its not comfortable and not accurate, i spent £80 or whatever on the recommendation by the dons on here but went back to my MX518, which was far more accurate and comfortable.

Seriously? could you not adjust it to fit your hand nicely? Could you be more specific in how it wasn't comfortable

Interesting about the batteries dying - how long did they last and was it still under warranty?

about a month.. I could have RMA'd it, but to sent it back with DHL was so expensive I didn't bother. Preferring to hang on to it and try and get some more batteries at a later date, while hoping the remaining one doesn't die on me.

to be clear, this was the same RAT battery issue Iguanoid referred to above. I dont want to imply that they are all like this by double posting about the same mouse.

For comparison I have no tracking issues with my RAT7 and use it on a Razer Destructor mat perfectly which is a very dark finely textured grey (almost black)

Strange. I had the same mousemat with the 9.

It always took about 8 seconds to wake up from changing battery on that mousemat (on a white piece of paper was instant. 8-10 seconds is a long time to not aim in game!). By tracking issues, i mean that now and again the vertical or horizontal axis would stop working for a few seconds (in desktop and gaming) and it can be a pain in the ass. Happened a lot on my black destructor - but it very rarely happens now however since I've changed to the white version of it. It's a comfortable mouse when you find the setting you like. I feel it's more of a Claw-grip mouse. What I like about it over the X8 (and im guessing the mamba too) is that it is quite.... airy. As in lots of gaps. Means my hand never sweats, which was a big issue for me with the X8.

Saying all that, I'd love to get a mamba and compare. Specially with it's new tracking system.
I've had no battery issues with the RAT 9, but it is fairly short so expect to change it once every day, and on the odd occasion twice. A big reason i chose the RAT 9 was cause it was always wireless, compared to the mamba and x8 which becomes wired when charging.
Though that's less of an issue for me these days, so if it doesn't bother you then it would be fine.

Still can't say for sure which one I'd recommend sorry. You'll have to decide what sort of mouse your looking for.

EDIT: Aaaaah i just remember the worst issue with the RAT 9. Every time I lifted it and and placed it back down, there was like half a second lag of the tracking kicking back in. Was so terribly annoying in FPS, particularly as I lift my hand up a lot. This was a deal-breaker at the time, until I got the white mouse mat and the issue went away. Hmm, maybe go with the mamba tbh.

I can take my RAT7 totally off my Destructor mat as much as I want and it tracks instantly when returned.

Maybe the RAT9 turns off for power savings like most wireless units tend to? Returning to the mat does not awaken it as fast as it should?

I don't think it would be that, more likely would be the sensor detects when it isn't on a surface and doesn't move the mouse (so when you lift the mouse it doesn't stutter) - but again, it shouldn't not work when you put it down!

Indeed. I've also read a ton about the error on line with the RAT 9 too with similar issues. It'e where i got the idea to try it on white paper. Seems the 7 doesn't have the problems. Nevertheless, the 9 is unfortuanatly pretty flawed, if i could trade my RAT9 for a mamba i would certainly consider it.
