just had an extremely interesting conversation...

Sounds great, if you could do it yourself on your own car.
Being a donor car for a project is something else though.

Agree with others, even though I like the uniqueness of the idea, you could buy a very quick and capable jap car or an M3 etc.

It will be fun and unique, but potentially unreliable and not cheap to fix...fairly likely to reveal some other shortcomings with the car as well sadly, such as cooling or transmission!

In some ways I feel it would ruin what the ST220 is about....a fast, refined, sporting cruiser. If you want a turbocharged nutter of a car, go buy an Impreza or Evo....

This sort of thing is usually conducted by garages themselves as it will need constant attention to keep it tip top, your ST sounds nice with low mileage I'd keep it that way, what if it doesn't work out, what if blows to pieces the first run not only have you got to find a ST engine but you'll be balls deep and have to do the conversion all again.

Ebay is littered with this stuff going for pennies as no one wants them.

I'd be thinking

Insurance up
Running costs up
Reliability down
Driveability down
Conversion costs high

After sitting down and thinking about this seriously, this is my over-riding feeling too.

Great idea for a unique car, but just not really worth the outlay and potential problems that could arise.

I was swayed a little by the fact that my ST hardly ever moves so reliability issues and not having the car during the build wouldn't matter but that's just clutching at straws trying to justify it.

I think this guy is worth keeping in touch with for his expertise anyway and I may be very tempted to take the AP calipers off his hands if I can find some decently priced discs and pads to match. And I'll be trying my damned hardest to blag a ride in that M400 too :D

I am sure it is more than viable but as everyone knows - Just because you can, does not mean you should.

If the ST2200 was RWD this would likely be a nice little project, but it's not. My first and foremost thought was "It's FWD....kinda of a waste of time as a result".
