Begineer + Kenyan safari - Camera = Spec me a camera

I find it really comfortable, better than the 60D in terms of layout (although a tiny bit worse than the 7D/D300).

Excuse the iPhone pics.

D7000 > 60D for everything but video, even then the D7000 isn't bad at video.

Isn't the 60D manual focus only in video mode?

However it is 1080p @ 30fps on the 60D vs 1080p @ 24fps on the D7000.

Great. your supposed to say get the D7000:p

Still more research to do:D

:D If I had to chose between the 60D and D7000 I'd get the D7000, fantastic camera and it's pretty affordable. A lot of reviewers rate it above some higher end cameras!

D7000 should win for virtually everyone, it's significantly better build (some magnesium alloy and lots of weather sealing vs mainly plastic and limited weather sealing on the Canon).

I like the 60D more than most though, it's a nice camera to use but compared to the alternatives it doesn't stack up logically, the D7000 is better in a similar price bracket, the 7D kills it if you want Canon and if you want value the 600D is so close it's difficult to justify.

Thanks Folks,

I am now the confused owner of a Nikon D7000:D

I've so far managed to turn it on and take a couple of pictures around the house just playing with the lens.

Jessops didn't have the D7000 and 18-105 lens combo so I managed to get the D7000 and 18-105 lens separate for less than the kit.:D

So My original budget waaay more than doubled.

I got a spare battery, a bag, a jessops UV lens and 2 8gb extreme cards and there sending me a free tripod. plus 3 yrs Insurance. managed to get a fair bit of discount. So all in all a good shopping trip.

Now for the fun part. And many many posts from a complete beginner.

Again cheers folks.

I haven't taken any pics OF the kit yet but here is a couple of shots WITH the kit.
Just bear in mind I have come from an Olympus compact.

No PP. I've not got my head round more than 3 of the buttons on the camera yet. Photoshop will be a whole new world.

What do you guys think to the untouched shots. The 3 shots of the hall caught my eye as the hedges almost line up but wasn't sure which of the 3 shots is headed in the right direction.

Cheers
Matt
