how much ram do you need?

4gb for gaming perhaps 8gb for slightly more memory intensive tasks.

I currently have 6gb which I fill is plenty.

iv never seen my 4gig of ddr2 go past 60% usage untill this last week.

The cause?

raw format photos. I am ordering an extra 4Gb and my total will be 8Gb. I doubt v much any moor than this would show any improvements on my system.

Hopefully you have a 64 bit operating system to make use of 8GB.

Filling all 4 memory slots may affect any overclock you have.

Currently use a rig with 48GB of RAM, although 96GB would be better as we can easily max it.

The small cluster I use has ~400GB distibuted over the nodes. The very top end HPC nodes can have 1TB of RAM installed in each motherboard assembly, it takes ages to plug in all the modules and if one is dodgy it is an absolute nightmare to diagnose which is the culprit!

I think your needs are a little bit more than the average user.
