Hi, Ive just aquired my first bmw E46, and I have now got my old rover 200 sitting In the drive almost ready to sell. It has 4months of tax left, and it could be gone in a few weeks but now I'm forced to Sorn it which sounds a pain in the ass to sell a car with no insurance or tax. Im looking at the temp cover insurance does anyone know of a decent temp cover that would be worth paying a month for rather than sorning and then reapplying for 6months. the first link on google tempcover estimate was £300 for a month  and I think as I pay that a year was kinda a ****take.

yeah £76 for 30days, :( was hoping to get it more around £50 but never mind. might try getting my dad to put it on his insurance or somthing see if he can get it cheaper.

These new rules are so stupid... :(

Totally - I have a few cars that are VED'd but not insured.

It'd make sense if you could get single day VED.

VED should just be rolled up into fuel duty or insurance costs.

I also dislike the new rules. I have a MX5 sat in the garage I only insure to drive to trackdays/the odd sunny month but now I've had to SORN it. I can't see it ever really getting used now I have to apply for a tax disc and subsequently get it refunded after every time I want to take it out.

I've long thought that...

Foreign cars effectively pay less than us for driving on our roads...

Plus it's hardly reflective of the amount people drive.

Put it all on fuel and those who drive more, pay more, those who drive less, pay less.

Although I doubt many people would accept another bump in fuel tax!

All these new rules do is penalise those looking to sell... it does nothing towards what it was intended... people who drive untaxed will continue to drive untaxed... people who drive uninsured will continue to drive uninsured

Even with tax you would still have issues with people whose DOC cover doesn't apply to an uninsured car.

Yeah I was gonna get a single day insurance on the day they wanted to take it away, but I cant as I have to sorn it or stump out a months insurance and hope it sells in a month. thats why I was playing with the idea of temp cover so not to have the hassle of a sorned car. :(

also slightly annoyed it said the end of june on the dvla website and today on the radio it said its now enforced so wht the hell? I now have to make this decision quickly instead of having the rest of the week. -.-

This is a common misconception which is regularly brought up here, it completely depends on your policy. For example, mine does state this, however there are quite a few policies where this doesn't matter.

I've run into this problem myself now. Hoping I can sell the car before I get a warning letter, but outlook isn't that great because it's a bit of a specialist car (supercharged Civic Type-R).

Pretty much going to have to factor in the cost of having to insure it while I'm selling it into whatever offers I get. :( Previously I had just been taking out a days cover whenever anyone came to view it while the car was parked off road.
