I have been given a borked one without a hard drive. It is quite old, 2005 ish i am guessing.

Has 6gb of ram

Don't know what works and what doesn't.

I did have a plan to give to friend at college for a project, but he doesn't want it :( Seem criminal to dump it :(

Is there anything fun I could do, I don't mean blow it up lol.

Any suggestions?

My thinking is strip it out completely build a pc inside it and do something fun with the case. Different colour?

Also first time i have ever seen inside an Apple. It is water cooled how cool is that :D

Put a hd in it (sata) and install 10.5 leopard .

If its water cooled, good job it hasnt leaked... Or is that why you now have it ?

Usuallu the liquid cooled ones have the 2.5ghz procs

The intrernal design of the g5 is rather neat.

I have one here but only 1 g ram but dual procs. If you want rid of the mem i might be intrested

I honestly don't know. My customer said it just stopped working one day. Do you want it? So don't know anything about it. No water stains inside though....

Haven't got a clue what could be wrong. Don't really want to plug it in, just in case it catches fire lol

the cases alone sell for around £150 on a certain auction site... strip it and sell parts?

Think you may be looking at the wrong machine? Or i have listed the wrong model number.

search completed listings and there are loads, that have gone for between £50 - £150 fully working and complete.

This WAS a water cooled ;) Until i just ripped it all out!

It is pretty much all stripped out now :D

So i am going to have a think and work out what todo with it.

I am thinking gloss black with the apple logo laser cut out and then illuminated blue or something. Then put in custom internals. :D

you will need to cut and shut that lovely alu to put a pc in it , it wont have mobo standoffs in the right place and some of the pci/e card slots end up in the wrong place

theres some guides about for how to mod it though

dont make it black :(

Heard a rumour that you need a converter to fit ATX mobos. Without seeing one I don't know if they have a 'proprietary screw system' or if you can get away with a retro fit.

the 'logic board' (mobo) has totally different fittings too atx

you can either grind old fittings off and glue new stand offs on in the right positions or you can fit an atx mobo tray that some places sell

Saw a really tidy project once that used this case but I can't remember where. Your best bet would be to get an ATX motherboard tray, but be prepared to get the Dremel out ;)

Yeah fully understand it wont be easy. Just thought it might be fun. Have not decided on what is going inside yet.

I want a different colour. Black will probably ruin it :( White?

Ugh don't know if todo something silly with it. Like fridge or fish tank :(

a dual g5 with 6gb of ram would have gone for a fair amount on the bay.

surely a hard drive would have been cheap enough to replace rather than gutting it!!

It was broken though as per OP :)

he took out the HD I assume for the data.

I had a look on the bay and they go for less than £300 fully working

How could you make it a fish tank without ... ruining ... it? Cut a hole in the side or just take the side off and fill it with perspex or whatever fish tanks are made from?
