A50 fan control on MSI GD65

It responded to PWM on my previous gigabyte board though, that's whats confusing me.

The MSI boards don't respond to PWM (as in graduated speed drop with temps) - i was hoping they would rectify this with a BIOS update but i'm not holding my breath.

This is why we all have to use the "CPU SMART FAN TARGET" option - which is pretty good when it works.

Right, the problem lies with the cpu fan alone, speedfan is letting me adjust the speed of my rear case fan, with a noticeable drop in noise level

Isn't the stock A50 fan a 3 pin fan? Meaning it won't respond to PWM control.

Tealc may have a point here - my freedomtower has a 4 pin connection. Although it's not PWM controlled in the 'true sense' it may still require a 4 pin fan so that it can be controlled via the 'SMART FAN'?

So it maybe due to the fact that your A50 is a 3 pin?

What would be the best fan to use as an alternative? Can't stand this much noise all the time..
My only other issue is how to mount the new fan to the cooler, as the a50 stock fan has mounting clips.

Akasa apache black - allthough lower rpm

Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 120mm Fan - 3/4 Pin

EDIT: looking for fixings...

Looking at the A50 wouldn't a standard 120 fan fit with the existing back plastic bracket which connects the existing fan to the HS?

I'm using it at the moment, i'll take it out in the morning and have a look, would certainly make life a dang sight easier if that would work!

The way my systems set up now, the only intake i've got is my side panel fan, plugged directly into my psu. My rear case fan is used as an exhaust, as is my a50 fan, which is blowing air up through the roof of my case, as i didn't really feel comfortable with it blowing air down on to my new 6870 :)

It looks like the fittings may be universal with the plastic back plate and the 4 pin fittings for any 120mm fan - here's hoping anyway.

The Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 120mm Fan - 3/4 Pin is the closest spec (rpm) to that of the A50 fitted fan.

If it's gonna turn out more hassle with all the faffing about, i may just order the silver arrow, had to sell my turtle beaches, so can't even use headphones to drown the noise out!

appreciate all the input, cheers

Swould like to see one in a case before i go ahead an order though, just to see how it looks in an actual build, opposed to a stock image.

Google thermalright silver arrow and then click on the images link to the left. You'll see quite a few examples in cases if you keep scrolling -link

Holy jesus!
been looking through the case gallery, managed to find a few.

That is a beast of a cooler!

Yes, but more imprtantly it does the job brilliantly - out performs all the all-in-one water coolers.

It's not pretty but it's got a great character... ;)
