Opinions gents? Good value for money? Anyone have one that can give some advise / opinions on them.

From having a read, they look cracking value for what seems a good, fun runaround

Are you talking about the newest one with the 1.4 TSI?

If so, my money would probably go on a Fabia vRS instead. Same engine, damn near same car but newer and cheaper.

Of course, there are altogether better ways to spend that kind of money, depending on your needs.

yeah, the new one. Fabia vrs is cheaper yes, but its also far uglier. Too square for my liking

Fair enough. I personally like the vRS in green, but different strokes an' all that. :p

Er, well, what's there to say? It's a small hatch so it'll be uncomfortable and noisy on the motorway, but the engine is sound and the build quality is decent, if a little cheap. There are far worse ways to spend that kind of money.

I think i'd be trying for an 09 example to save as much as possible though. There's no need to buy a car like this new when all the used ones will still be in warranty and cheaper.

I have that engine in a VW Rocco. I dont really know what to say. Its a very linear power delivery, I cant tell when turbo kicks in or when supercharger comes out (yse its done on electric switch at 3.5k i know). Its very fast for a 1.4 and pulls 80mph at 2k in 6th (I have a manual). There seems a glitch n the map at low revs it can be a bit werid at times, it went in for its 10k service and they said they remapped it which was good, however didnt fix the problem (In fact I havent noticed any difference) but at least they admit their have been a few complaints I guess. Feel free to ask anything and I will try my best. I got 47mpg average on way to work this morning droping mum off on way, once mum got out I got it down to 37mpg by the time I got to work.

Engine sounds amazing! Better then mate ed30 golf and even he admits that! Its fine on motorway (Just read what someone above put) so no idea where they get that from.

Brilliant, someone whose got a car with the same engine. Glad it seems ok motorway wise. Does it have a lot of pull in the lower end or is it sluggish?

Anyone have a rough idea of the build quality of the cupra? I'm coming from a suzuki swift - so surely it'll be better

Those MPG figures sound brilliant, 47MPG on an average drive to work

DON'T get me started.

When I was looking I test drove one of these engines in a Golf GT. Was the 170ps version of the 1.4TSI engine. It was utterly fantastic, lovely nice smooth engine with plenty of power for a first time buyer like myself and good MPG to boot.

But it was hard to find one within budget and those that were were really quite ropey (had £10K to spend).

In the end I ended up with the Leon but I average just 40MPG with it on a run. I don't regret getting it per se but going back, i'd have begged/borrowed/stolen the extra for the Golf GT TSI.

It'll be slightly better inside but don't expect miracles. SEAT love their plastic interiors - they're well put together but certainly nothing special in terms of comfort.

Have you considered the 170ps Golf TSI instead?

I hadn't if I'm honest. Its looking like 12-13k for a Cupra, but if I can find an 09 for a grand or so less then I will be doing.

Is the 170ps Golf TSI a good alternative? I did think about the abarth punto at one point, but I discounted it cause I think the looks could be a little garish, and its a fiat...

I drove one. Well screwed together, smooth, unreal gearbox - Literally could not tell it was changing gears.
Didn't make me smile once though. Its a great all rounder but it just isnt an exciting car in my oppinion. Goes well enough but doesnt sound particularly good.

I would drive one before doing anything else.
