i was planning on using my corsair vengeance memory with my new board and chip(p67a-ud4 2600k) what ive read is that the air coolers dont fit with the vengeance memory in first slot...as i was planning using 16gb of this memory ...so now im thinking of swapping my memory for low profile memory so i can get a decent air cooler....or shall go for say the antec kuhler 620/920 or h50/60/70 as ive never used liquid cooling before im a little worried as ive mentioned in a previous post....im not planning to overclock muc just to around the 4 gig give ot take a little either way...so has anyone else had this problem and what did they decide on doing thanks

Personally, if you're thinking of spending £50 i would get the Thermalright Silver Arrow. It will out perform the all-in-one water coolers and is virtuaally silent.

Plus if you ever wanted to try and hit 5GHz you would have the option to experiment as its cooling performance is excellent.

But of you're only going for 4GHz the all in one water coolers would do this easily and quietly (even the stock cooler) - so i would buy the cheapest 620.

nps so you think its best to change the memory to a lower profile or does the silver arrow fit with the corsair vengeance.

Give you an alternative setup...

Silver Arrow it will outperform most of the things mentioned and is very quiet - ~£50. It's had excellent review and keeps things very cool even at low fan rpm.

It can be orientated away from the memory- i.e. pull/pull - image below explains better:

Obviously, you would probably need to move your rear case fan.

silver arrow will not fit over the vengance RAM. get some corsair XMS3 if you want 8GB, or the cheap 1600Mhz kingston stuff if you want 4GB.

i would be very surprised if the silver arrow didnt fit in your case. however, you may have to remove a side fan to fit it in

*edit*
if you look at this image:

the fan at the back is a 140mm fan. i know the motherboards IO panel at the back is taller than 2cm, so you will definitly be able to fit it in. as i said im not sure if the side fan will interfere with the cooler

OMG the size of that lol jesus...im not sure now looks a little ermmm ridiculous to be honest thats only my opinion like

Hehe, i suppose it does look a bit imposing on first viewing but it really is one of the best air coolers on the market.

what do you reckon on this been looking and this looks to fit my needs...

I know nothing about that cooler - but as you're only after 4GHz it will certainly be more than capable. Plus, it looks as though it would run with your Vengence. Looks a funky design - google some reviews and see what you think.

The Gelid is great cooler @ £25 and will easily accomplish what your after - cool temps and relative quiet running - link. But, it wont accomodate the Vengence.

At present an Akasa AK-CC017V2 Freedom Tower - link. It's quite tall from the base of HS to bottom of fan - there's a slim chance it may fit over your vengence (i'll have a look google).

But, i've fitted a SA recently so will be replacing it very soon as i could run the SA at 50%/75% speed (slient) and still get the same results.

just read the views on it on people who bought it does hang over the memory slots....whats going on with all these new coolers hanging over the memory slots?

The larger surface volume, fins and greater number of heat pipes gives much better performance - but at the cost of size.

But as you're after a very small clock - you could compromise with a slimmer cooler - or go with the Kuhler 620 as it will do what you want very well.

I wouldn't spend anymore than the 620 as your clock wont require it - plsu the 620 outperforms the H60 (just) in most reviews plus it's £10 cheaper.

i've recently installed that cooler. i can tell you it wont be as good as the silver arrow, but it is still a very good cooler.

it doesnt go anywhere near my ram slots, so you should be fine with your vengance ram *edit* the 1155 socket is actually further away from the ram than the AM3 socket */edit*

the installation is a little fiddly, but if you follow the instructions (and dont put the instruction manual on top of the double sided stick pads) you shouldnt have too many problems.

it is an incredibly quiet cooler too, not needing to go over 1450RPM under prime (and keeping the temperature under 48C)

also, at 11mm shorter than the silver arrow it wont look quite as intimidating

i use the zalman 9500 had in for around 2 years still running strong ...its the same shape ...still thinking on the liquid cooling lines lol scared of a change i think ....thats me lol

Sounds like the Zalman will suit your needs.

Just to scare you a bit more the the prolimatech genesis would accomodate your vengence and cool it - link.

Hard to source though...
