How long did you keep your first car?

20 years old with a MkV Gold TDI???

I was going to get one of those, it's worth at least £5k isn't it? I'd say that's better car than most people has when they are 20.

It is the crappy 1.9 though, hardly an amazing car for someone to have at 20, especially if they left school at 16/18 instead of going to uni. When I was at Uni people were driving around in Skylines, brand new MINIs and all sorts.

Students these days must be loaded, when i was in my first year people thought I was posh coz I had a TV and playstation.

When I did my post grad a friend bought a 996 !

Indeed, one of my friends had a Mini Cooper S for a good long while at uni.

Mind you, most of my uni friends on my repeat were amazed that I drive a BMW, in fact, most of the people I have spoken to since I got the car (job interviews/recruiters when asked what I drive) have all been amazed that I drive a BMW because they are amazing expensive cars.
Not like I'm young really, I owned my 328i at 21 and this 318iS at 23...but both are/were shonky old cars.

I think I'm one of the longer standing owners then :D

Still own my Micra, first car, which I bought just over 4 years ago for £700. It's been through some tough times and cost a lot to run but it's still going strong. It will be replaced later this year with something French though.

Had my 1.6 96' 306 for a whole year before the gearbox ate itself, so I bought a 99' 306 instead. Bought the old one for £500, sold it for £400 - not to shabby!

I shared my Mum's Renault Megane when I first learnt to drive, which I drove on and off for about 4 years whilst I was at school/uni.

Then I got a Ford Ka as a student car for placement, had it for 3 years now - it's a tin can with wheels and I very much hate it, but I keep going on holidays/trips/weekends away so not really saving much for a new car atm. Will almost certainly change it come Sep/Oct time.

1.4 Corsa Breeze. Had it for a year, and sold it for 100% profit :) Then bought the petrol FR which i proceeded to ram into the back of somone a couple of months ago. tool

I keep my cars for as long as it takes me to get the money to upgrade to a better car (within reason).

Had my beast of G-reg Fiesta 1.6S for three years before giving it to my brother for his first car. Was really handy in London - people are reluctant to pull out on you when you're in a terrible car. Apart from buses, they'll pull out on anyone.

Rover 416. 3 months during which time it had 2 head skims, 1 water pump, 2 sets of valves and 2 cambelts...

Got shot as soon as it came back the last time without even driving it.

Traded in for a 1.8 Audi A4 and kept it for 5 years til I was 24 and wanted something better.

Nova 1.4 - got rid of it after 1 year......it was so dull. Got a Clio 1.4 instead - it was a piece of junk that got towed so many times I lost count, but I loved it all the same - so much more fun to drive than the Nova.

About a year and a half, bought for 1800, sold for 1500 (still need to update sig, but the Volvo is gone :(). Many great memories from flying in it (as in going airborne), sticking 2 mates in the boot ( on a holiday, was either a 10 minute drive in the car, or 50 minutes with the bus, all my mates accepted the risk and said if we'd get a fine we'd split it, so we went with 7 ppl in the car), surprised looks from caps in Corsa's and stuff alike when doing a traffic light gp, always slight wheelspin when going from first to 2nd quickly, I loved that ''eeep'' from my tyres on a gearswitch, ahhh, good memories, old farts looking funny when I drive past in an army green Volvo estate blasting Wu Tang Clan shaking up the area :D. Good times.

6 years of Peugeot goodness.

I really want to replace it, but I keep thinking that its not worth it :(
I'd rather take a big upgrade than just a little upgrade and then another little upgrade. I was tempted to go from a 307 to a Mondeo, and then to another car but just seems like a waste of money.

So within 2 years I will have a new car, and it'll be along the lines of the 5 series, XF, E-Class and so on.

my first car was a peugeot 106 1.1.. i had it for just under 6 years until it was written off in a accident.

Triumph Dolomite 1850HL. Had it for about three years, with one or two other cars in that duration as well.

Sold it for £300 more than I bought it for - but still a massive loss once you take into account three year's running costs and insurance :D
